Yeah about that. The point were the inside down tube meets the front cross member has gone from 3 3/4" to 4 1/4", so time to change the shocks and get it back down to 3 1/2. That will definitely help front end grip.

P/U the sidecar from Denis @ CMR today. As usual they did a great job, and Byron did some beautiful welds.

They made a plug to fit the gap, welded it in, then added saddles over that.

Did discover that the previously repaired area at the rear shock is starting to crack again.

Going to have to add some strength to that area. Have to see what can be done without having to modify bodywork. In the mean time got busy putting everything back on, that had been removed to fix the frame. Next up, pull the front shocks, set the frame at the correct ride height, and measure for new shocks.

Did some more work on changing the front ride height. Got some turnbuckles from Home Depot and installed them in place of the shocks. Set the length to give me the ride height wanted, then put blocks under the rear & chair wheels, and a scale under the front. Weighted the front end static (208) / with just me (249, ~20% increase) / and with a passenger (272, ~10% increase). Determined that the old shocks are Hagon. Sent them an email, and they can supply ones at 320mm. So loaded sag required would be 15mm, with no more than 1 1/2" of additional travel. Looks like this would mean progressive springs.

Also made a template for the additional bracing required to strengthen the right side rear shock mount area. Should have that maded, and welded in by the end of next week.

There should be a new member joining the forum shortly. Sold one of my 750 engines to another sidcar guy. He is going to be installing it in a Baker F2 chassis, so he can run in our P3 class.

Ordered shocks today for both front and back. Most of Hagon's lineup come with progressive springs Syscrush. That said, I've been talking to British Cycle Supply (Cdn Dist), and they have another shock that has straight rate springs. Basically I've been racing on springs, as the shocks no longer have any dampening to speak of.

The ones going on will have 100lb springs (F), about 10% less than the previous, The rears are 110lb.

Sent my polished rear rim out (not to my normal guy) to have some wobble taken out. He's had it 3 weeks, and I find out last night he didn't do anything.

Says the 2mm runout is within limits. What the f*ck, maybe for a street bike, but not a race bike, and certainly not a sidecar with the side loads they get. Will never send anything to him again.

Worst of this situation FuZZie, is that rim has a new tire on it. I put 2 heat cycles on the wheel at the spring 'test & tune' to scrub it, then removed it, to save it specifically for Mosport.

I'll use my worn one (2 race weekends) for the 1st two practice sessions on Friday. There's 1 1/2 hours between the 2nd and 3rd, so I'll change wheels then, and try it. If it sucks (likely), I've got 4 hours between the 3rd & 4th sessions to do a tire change.

Did some checking, seems 2mm (0.07") is the 'not to exceed' limit for run out. That said the other wheel has .5mm / .02 runout. After the weekend I'll send it to Brian Henderson to have it brought into spec.

Not a problem, don't consider it a highjack scotty. A little over 2 hours by Highway 401. It's just north of Bowmanville, ON. Does the question mean that GZ might make it to Mosport (now Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

, but I refuse to call it that!). That would be cool, he could ride the sidecar again.

My races are Saturday & Sunday @ ~11:30. bwaller's are the race before mine, he has another about 1:30 (different class). hrcscott & timv are also racing.

You've built many more race machines than I have, and I don't doubt that you know better than I do what should go on 'em, but the idea of progressive-rate springs just makes no sense to me at all. I mean, it's basically a guarantee that the damping and spring will be mismatched. I would never run a progressive spring, but lots of people who ride better/faster than I ever will do run 'em...

Re Hagons and progressive springs, the operative word Syscrush was 'most'.

The Hagon shock / spring sets I ending up ordering from British Cycle Supply are essentially custom order, but made up of off the shelf parts. Shocks have the eye sizes & lengths (different) I require for the front and back; and straight rate springs in the rates I need. Nice thing about Hagon is they will do a N/C spring change if the rate isn't right.

So we get to try them @ Mosport, and if we decide that they're not right, they can be changed.

Almost ready to starting loading for Mosport. Hagons came today, and were a bolt on. Many thanks to Martin @ British Cycle Supply.

This is the brace I had added to support the frame were it was cracking from shock stress. MIG'd all round, and on both sides were it joins the original upper shock mount.

Brian, it looks like the top of the shock is hitting the support? Not a good thing, IMHO.
