Are these Rear hub dampers infused with gold????
« on: March 30, 2013, 10:44:37 AM »
Dang!
CB750K4 - Mostly stock, Lester Mags, 2-1 exhaust

Been searching for the 2 sets (4 Each) of the rear hub dampers. After the last tire change, I pulled the hub apart to inspect and clean and noticed the dampers were split in places and generally in poor shape. Now it is time to get new tires and I want to change the dampers out.

First question: Although they are not in the best cosmetic or structural shape, they are still serving their purpose. I have heard no knocking or banging from the rear hub at all. Do they really need to be replaced?

So off I go to the interwebs to purchase new ones.... From what I have found thus far, they are $18 and $15 per damper. Either they are infused with gold, or they have topless super models building them one by one.

I would rather not go the route of our local bike grave yard for these... Anyone know of any other sources?

FWIW, I'm also changing both drive sprockets (From 530 18T/48T to 530 17T/48T), the current rear sprocket looks like an advertisement for Shark Week. I am also making the jump to an o-ring/x-ring type chain.

Any help?
Thanks,
Phil

If you don't want to spend the money, and they look/feel okay...well, don't spend the money.  However, if they're crumbling...that's not a whole lot of dollars to spend on a safety/comfort item.

They are made of unobtainium! I'm thinking that may be #123 on the periodic chart but then it stopped at 103 when I was in college.  :)

Are the German guys making these? There are a few 'specialty' items being made through a club there but I don't have any info off the top of my ever slickening head.

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

The Google search on "German Rubbers" brought some very unexpected results.
