Well, it depends on the carbs and other emissions stuff on the bike too, sometimes things just don't like the "acceptable range"... for example, my ZX7R had Kiehin flat slide CR carbs installed from the Kawasaki factory, but on the manual for the carbs it says in plain English "not for street use, for racing purposes only".  It also had the emission stuff removed from it though.  It was walking that line of being able to pass and not, at 5.5... and I promise you, it was very tuned and running perfectly.    That's what we were getting from the EGA at Arizona Kawasaki.  I could have gotten it to pass by turning in the adjustment screws a 1/4 or 1/2 turn, but I sold the bike before needing to emission or register it here. 

If something doesn't have a catalytic converter on it, it will typically produce more emissions.  Doesn't mean its running any more poorly than the same restricted system.

    Did you set up you're jetting on the lean side on you're CB350F so that it would be sure to pass Emissions ? and if so is it leaner than you want for full-on performance? or will you dial it in even more now? What is the acceptable limits for you're bike...,according to the local Emissions testers ? Just curious.

It is still a bit on the lean side, not too much though because I can use about 1/4 to 1/2 choke to get it right in the sweet spot.  That was what I did at the emissions station too.  I figure it is running best at that setting, so why not give that a go first, and it quick passed.  Sometimes, if something is close to failing, the computer goes into long test mode, and requires more than an idle test. 

I do plan to try to dial it in a bit more, fiddling with the choke while riding is not ideal nor correct.  As far as full on performance, its reeaally close... When it will pull a long hill at 85 no problem with a 40yr old 350cc motor, you know its close.

Acceptable range for any bike is
0-5.5 CO
0-1800 HC

We just emissioned Elizabeth's SRX6 yesterday, it came closer to failing than the 350f without even being rejetted from Colorado.

What you're telling me is that no matter what cc's the engine is...that the emissions just has One maximum allowable amount...?? I wonder what "government official" came up with that criteria; I hope that you're Emissions testing won't last too long there  .

well, most internal combustion engines will have similar poor running issues at about that max range.
the stoichiometric ratio never changes.

Do they go by the amount/volume of exhaust pushed out the tailpipe? or the ratio of HC & CO in that amount ??

I'm just trying to learn a little on this  ...I suppose that they want what ever comes out of the engines to be as clean as it should be regardless of the size of the bike.;that's what I want also.  Now I hope I can find some decent fuel to enjoy the ride with and keep my engine happy.

We went and registered our two motorcycles yesterday, got consecutive tag numbers.   

Straight from the DMV lady's mouth:  Proof of collectible insurance is the only thing required to exempt a vehicle from emissions testing in AZ.  Many people go to the expense of getting the antique tags, but that is not required, at all...  Or, they get the antique tags thinking that is the requirement, it is not.

This is only for cars. Did they let you use  classic insurance on a bike for it?

I'm running pods with 400f mains and slows (75/40).

Tested at 1 3/4 turns out on the adjustment screws and choke partially closed, it runs best like that since re-tuning after moving here from CO.  Yes, I know its not exactly right, but it passed!

Area B is referring to Tucson. They don't seem to think a motorcycle is a vehicle. If a motorcycle is in Phoenix it is not exempt according to their law.

(a)  Except as otherwise provided in this subdivision, a motor vehicle manufactured in or before the 1966 model year.  If the United States environmental protection agency issues a vehicle emissions testing exemption for motor vehicles manufactured in or before the 1974 model year for purposes of the state implementation or maintenance plan for air quality, a motor vehicle manufactured in or before the 1974 model year is exempt from inspection.

(b)  New vehicles originally registered at the time of initial retail sale and titling in this state pursuant to section 28‑2153 or 28‑2154.


(k)  Collectible vehicles.

(l)  Motorcycles in area B.

Area B is Tucson.

I'm not trying to get anyone to believe anything that's what churches are for, I was just posting facts .

DMV lists collectibles/classics as exempt, this I know. I did it 4 years ago. I was asking if you got your bike through with classic insurance as the law is vague on motorcycles being classified as collectable/classic. If this is the case great, I don't have to wait in line next year.

Cool, I just wasn't clear on DMV's wording. I'll look into it when my insurance is up for renewal. Don't go by NADA for value.  For collector car insurance you state the value and pay accordingly. I had my car covered for $25k and paid around $300 a year for Hagerty. Liability was more than that.  I was limited on mileage but it was a weekend car and kept me out of that yearly DMV sniff line.
