ANY vehicle in the Phoenix Metro boundary built in '66 or later has to pass emissions!

Ok, but what do they use for a baseline? How do they know what is "good" emissions for a 350F??
There were no emissions standards for bikes when it was new that would be relative today.
Have they just set arbitrary limits?

btw, that '66 date is likely because that was year that all cars in the US were required to have ANY kind of emissions controls.  (i.e. PCV valve.)

Anyway, sorry you have to go through that, it's silly!

Lets hope some lawyer will go to batt for us.
Submit whatever paper.

We're lucky in Ontario; Motorcycles are exempt. Plus other vehicles over 20 years. Thank goodness!

all motorcycles and ATVs that are tagged for the street, yes you read that right, have to test at below those levels I stated earlier.

Ah, ok. I wonder how they arrived at those numbers.

Phoenix Arizona is a SMOG bowl. It is surrounded by mountains, and in the summer when there is no air and 114º you just cook inside the smog filled bowl.
Phoenix is one of the worst planned cities in the united states.

Tucson is much better. Mountains only on two sides. You are only 55 miles from the border and the ocean.

The last safety inspection I had the young guy look at the old guy and said what do I check. The old guy said he rode it in it passes. This is a small Mom&Pop shop. I doubt the Honda shop would do that. I don't know if I have to get it inspected this year or not it is a 78. If it does it will be the last time in N.C..
I swear this to be true.

Don't they have a smog problem and emissions testing in Tucson, too?

Not nearly as bad. We do sit in a bowl; winter inversions are very nasty with this brown cloud that can sit down on us - just plain ugly and god know what health issues it is causing.  Tucson does not get that (it does have air pollution from time to time, but not like Phoenix - we've lived in both towns, prefer Tucson but the job is here - really prefer going back to where they have snow!).

Phoenix is one of the worst planned cities in the united states.

Tucson is much better. Mountains only on two sides. You are only 55 miles from the border and the ocean.

Haha, well, when Phoenix was settled, I can guarantee that smog was not included in their "plan".  That was over 2000 years ago, the Hohokam peoples that occupied the land created roughly 135 miles (217 km) of irrigation canals, making the desert land arable.  Many of those canals are still in use today.  We came here because of the water, so long ago, not because we knew it would be a smog pit hundreds of years later.

And actually, as far as planning goes, (I feel I do have a bit of expertise considering I have an Arch/Planning degree) I don't find the planning too atrocious.  It is easy to get around the entire valley, and many of the master planned communities are pretty amazing and meld with the rest of the Metro nicely.  It is simply a huge city, some people like it, some don't.  I can understand your disdain for Phoenix, I always had an aversion to Tucson, but after living in Santa Fe for a while, I appreciate it's qualities a bit more now.

passed emissions again this year!  quick pass too!   :)

just renewed our registration online and opted to pay the extra 25/bike for historic plates... they just look so much cooler... still have to get emission tested though, I think 1966 or older is the cutoff for not needing testing.

not my #s but aren't they pretty?!

Yeah, he skipped town last year in the cover of darkness and we barely got GZ from UT to KS without him. Guilt feelings!

Escaping the Darkness isn't so bad...

The wind is chilled; it cuts freely across the open Prairie of North Dakota, almost seeming to play about with sublime delight. There is nothing to stop its icy, late fall course.
Stretching far as the eye can see, both to the front and back behind, is a grey and black colored tarmac. It’s most distinctive detail, a crazy cockeyed yellow line running schizophrenically down its approximate center.
That lonesome road is the only thing that breaks the sheer monotony of the land, yet the whole scene is strangely beautiful in a way indescribable in mortal words.
Solitude covers the ground in a thick and silken fog, coupled with the minimal early morning light it gives this quiet land an ethereal, otherworldly feel.
Suddenly something breaks this code of silence; far off for now, but heard. It is a far off cry of a sound that comes to ear. It is almost too low to be heard at first, but it builds with nearness.
It is a medium rumble that is heard, rhythmic and steady. A smaller engine maybe, one not so much of an overcompensation. It is a motorcycle most assuredly, but even at that, it is not so large for its kind.
Yes, there it is indeed, moving fast. One lone spot of head ward motion in a place utterly still.
Dark bike, tall rider, and as the man gets closer (for he could be naught else with such facial hair) there comes the impression of dark clothes, dark leather, and dark thoughts.
Ever faster does this dark rider move as we watch, ever faster, and ever onward.
