Bamboo Cafe Racer seat: 200 hours of work.
« on: February 23, 2012, 07:41:41 AM »
Check out this seat.

Quote
This seat is made entirely of solid strips of bamboo. Each strip is .125 inches wide and was bent and glued in one by one. After laminating the seat was ground down, fiberglassed for protection and strength, and buffed to a clean finish. Total time to build the project was over 200 hours and was a first for LivTID Engineering.

Hipsters all over Williamsburg are eating their fixie hearts out right now and saving up PBR deposits to afford one as I write this.

oh... I really hope they don't make more. Something that original is priceless. Making copies only devalues the original.

I don't think that will be much of an issue.  Even if the builder were able to cut the manufacturing time in half by increasing volume and efficiency, the price to the consumer would be way, way more than the vast majority of people would be willing to pay for a seat.  I'm thinking upwards of 2 grand minimum.

I love it. It totally reminds me of those old Chriscraft Speed Boats from the 30's. Or the old Woody Wagons from Ford, Chevy and Dodge.

very nice it's amazing what we as humans can accomplish.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

Yea hand laying the bamboo like that is super labor intensive.  Then lots of shaping, lots of dust.  This is not for your average bear.  I appreciate it though and definitely something you could take pride in.

considering some of the ones I've seen made out of fiberglass, I'm sure it could be done with enough por-15 or redkote tank coating.
