what to do with bad painted fork legs?
« on: February 27, 2012, 08:59:41 PM »
I'm working on a bike that has peeling paint coming from the fork legs, we have had the seals done but I just can't put these things on as the rest of the bike looks so good.
The old paint comes off real easy with a light wire wheel on my electric drill but what do I do once I have it all off?
I checked the FAQS section and nobody has posted on this, I seem to remember a forum member polishing their fork legs, any help! :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I've heard of guys using "aircraft stripper" and it worked well for them..I've never used it myself.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !

Oh don't use a wire wheel!
Use some acetone or paint thinner to strip them and get some 400 or 600 grit sandpaper and go over them.
Work your way up to ~1200 grit before you get after them with a polishing wheel.

strip them with aircraft stripper just brush it on and wash it off. Getting the old clear coat off is the pain. Stripper does nice if no nicks try going right to a mothers mag and aluminum cleaner.
