resto/mod project CB400f from Italy

Hi everybody...

this is my cb400f when i first brought it home, dirty a bit rusty but very complete and well mantained for not being used since '84



this is after a little bit of cleaning, removed the rear rack and crash bars too





i'm just cleaning and painting stuff, nothing too interesting...

gas tank out to being cleaned and sealed



after a serious cleaning session :)



some original 80's Tommaselli clubman handlebar, i'll mount them as soon as my headlight ears come



without the tailight and bracket, i need to repaint them... i've polished the two fenders



the only really rusted parts on the bike are the kick-stands... so i'm treating them with rust converter plus paint...



that's all for now :)

Looking good mate, I love that yellow color.

Report back on how you go with the clubmans, I eventually went with clips-ons on my 400F because I could never get the clubmans to feel right.

thanks guys...

@rickB i followed your entire build, it inspired me a lot... as for the clip on i don't like the fact that the upper fork plate remain unused... i'll have to found another plate and shave it up like you did to make the clip-ons really looks right.

before start to mod the bike i have to restore it at its original state, here in Italy you have to send pics of your original vintage bike to the authority  in order get new license plate

Welcome,  very nice 77 400f.   That year was the rarest of the production line.  I've had 7 or 8 400 fours but only one was a 77-and that was a neglected basket case without a title...Larry

thanks, 77 is rare here in Italy too... especially in yellow... i love the color so much!

today i dropped the exhaust, the muffler is a sito one that looks close to the original but is rusted completely, oem downpipes are almost perfect... i ordered a megaphone style muffler from sito but in the near future i want something more racey...



i found this marving 4-1 for a 350f, could you guys think this will fit my 400f... are the diameter the same of my 400? i don't want something more restrictive than the stock exhaust even if it's cheap and looks good :P

nice bike man, i dont know how i got it since ive never riddin one or even seen onein person, but i have a soft spot in my heart for those little 400's

thanks a lot...

the diameter of the marving exhaust is a bit larger than my oem exhaust, the only thing i need to figure out is if i can install it on my 400 without any problem...

help?!

the pipe should fit okay. The only place you might have an issue is if it gets close to the footpegs. 400 pegs were farther back than the 350. Try and put it on as long as the other exhaust is off.

today i cleaned and painted some bits...

painted kick-stands installed...



started with the clutch lever side cover...



then started to polish it, but didn't like it because of some corroded surface on it...



decided to paint it silver instead



primered tail light bracket and license plate holder

Love the idea of black seat with yellow stitching. I cannot sew but I am thinking of having a 400F seat done gray or silver with pink(yes, pink,  as part of the sale proceeds are going to benefit cancer) stitching.  The bike will be pink, silver and opal...Larry

thanks, the upholsterer told me he'll try a yellow stiching on the seat and maybe adding some more yellow flavour... i hope it'll turn right looking :P

the giuliari seat is done... it's a bit different from what i told the upholster guy but i'm glad he did it his own way... looks great!!!

Wow, it really cleaned up nicely. And the set looks great!   Why not use the stock header and put a custom muffler on it?  Whatever you do, do not get rid of it.

stock headers are in great shape, just a little hole in the lower section i need to repair, i definetly not get rid of them :)

but i want a marving exhaust too
