stuck shifter problem
« on: March 05, 2012, 08:24:08 AM »
So the other day i noticed my '77 750K had a bit of an oil leak coming from the shifter cover. I pulled the cover, tore off the old ratty gasket, built a new gasket with "the right stuff", and replaced the cover. My oil leak issue is solved; however, the shifter lever is now fairly tight and seems to be a bit sticky. Sticky as in if you pull the lever up (say into 2nd gear) the lever will remain in that location or slowly return to its idle location. I pulled the the cover once again and it seemed to work fine. Put the cover back on, worked fine. Tightened the bolts, stuck again.

Just curious if any of you folks have experienced the same thing and if there is a known fix.

Thanks!
Kevin

My best guess would be that when you pulled the cover off, the shifter spindle got pulled out slightly. (I have learned to push on the end of the spindle with my thumb while pulling the cover to prevent this from happening.)
Pull the cover back off, and make sure the spindle is properly seated.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
