iPhone speedometer
« on: February 24, 2012, 08:00:29 AM »
I just found this sweet app for the iPhone! Its a speedometer compass clock and iPod control. Combined with my iPhone mount in landscape view it should be very cool and easy. So now I am thinking I also want to add one of those shark speaker and amp kits. What do you think of those? O yea the app is called awesome HUD.

I've been looking at similar apps as well.

This holder & mount look interesting (ignore the Scotsman providing the commentary with a mouth full of marbles!)

Björk There's more to life than this

I love that song. Thanks for sharing.

And as for the iPhone thing, the last thing I'm worried about when I'm out on the road is my phone. I don't want to look at at, talk to it or listen to it. It goes in a pocket and I forget about it. Mounting it on the bars of my nearly 40 year old bike would just detract from the essence of having a vintage machine to ride.

Just my .02.

If I were the developer for the speedo app, I would make it an option to disable phone calls while the speedo view is up. Have it go straight to voicemail. This may be the case with these apps...not sure.

Well I tested out the accuracy in my car and it worked very well! I dont plan on somehow talking on the phone. So I'll just decline the call. As far as detracting of the vintage look I somewhat agree but I really the minimalist  look of my dash area. I have LEDs in the bucket and just the speedo that has all the other things like the compass, time, average speed, speed warning, and fastest speed. vintage look modern conveinence
Tews what app did you get? There are so many. I downloaded all the free ones and deleted the ones I did not like. The one named awesome HUD was definately the best in my eyes. The only thing I worry about is what if I can't get a signal. I have the iPhone 4 and I think it works the speed off gps but if it just triangulates your position with cell towers I think it may not work very well on these Michigan back roads. But than again I don't know when I do the speed limit on those roads anyways.
Well anyways any thoughts on the shark 3 in speaker with built in amp? They are only like 25$. So if I can't here it on the road at least I'll have a radio while camping and drinking some brews in the garage.

I bought the full version of SpeedBox, and it seems pretty sweet. I've only used it once on my bike (to measure my speedo accuracy), but I've used it a couple of times in the cage, and it's pretty nice. Haven't tried the HUD mode yet, since I use my iphone to play music.

If you can get it to mount a bit higher, you can take video!

The case  I have has a "window" for the front and rear camera. So i guess I could do some vids. Maybe I'll do one of my mooring commute down the m5 I96 275 area. It's like frickin india!  I seen an app that I think let you see what the camera is seeing with a speedo on the screen now that would be cool if it recorded. Or maybe a speedo app that uses the camera on the screen side of the phone and puts that pic on the screen. You could angle it to see not behind you but kinda next to you

I just bought this Bilt helmet with built in bluetooth. Syncs to my iphone 4 sends / recieves calls and plays music in stereo. ONLY reason i bought it: it was on sale for like 119.00 or something crazy like that. Now they have one for $69.00. http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/v600z_bluetooth_full_face_motorcycle_helmet/web1009632.

I just got back from testing my app. It was spot on. Took a second to catch up as we were already doing 80. No glitches or anything. Now I will buy the mount for my bike

You got this helmet from that site?  And you have it in your hands?  Just checking on the sites authenticity.

If so, are you satisfied with it?
