Necessary to Remove Swingarm Bushings Before Powdercoating?

I am nearing the stage of my build where I will be getting things powder coated, the swingarm being one of the items.  Is it necessary to remove the bushings prior? I have a K4 750 which does not have the zerk fitting(s).

The heat they'll use to bake the powder will not do those bushings any good! To remove them will ruin them too, but there is no choice.

Remove everything and mask off the end of the s-arm tube to keep the paint powder out.

The better question is, why wouldn't you take it apart? If you're going to the lengths to rebuild and restore,I would think new bushings would be a must.

Because nothings appears to be wrong with them.  The swingarm moved freely up and down with no slop before I removed it.  I was using the if it aint broke don't fix it mentality.

I had mine just powdered... I left everything inside and they gave me back without bushings and stuff.. I just took my swingarm to my local Honda shop and they ordered everything I needed for around 35$ they will install it as well. I think its a good deal
I'll be picking it up in few days..for me its worth it.

It's a wearable 35+ year old part, why not replace it while everything is apart? Don't be one of those POs that made the bike look really pretty just to fall apart on the next owner.

If you don't want to remove them then at least protect them from powdercoat.  I used a long bolt with a large washer on both sides to cover the holes.  It's next to impossible to remove the powdercoat from deep inside the swingarm.

This is what I did with mine and it turned out fine.  The only difference was I used a long threaded rod instead of a carriage bolt.

Any good powder coater will want them removed to avoid oil contamination in their bake oven.

Remove them, then get as much grease as you can out of the swingarm tube, then cap it off as decribed above.

When folks have me rebuild them with Oilite bushings, I have them cap off the ends as described above (with 12" long allthread rod, 2 fender washers, nuts) and paint them. They come out fine.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

I'm proud to say I'm one of HM's "folks."  ;D  Like I said... it worked just fine for me doing it as HM described.
