CB550F Crash Bars
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:46:04 AM »
Hi all,

I have a '78 CB550F2 which I'm just putting the finishing touches to, and I'm looking for some crash bars to protect her nice shiny engine and exhaust system should I ever drop her...  :-\

I'm in the UK, and it's quite hard to get parts over here. Does anyone happen to know where I could get hold of some crash bars, either in the UK or the US? I've looked through David Silver's website and he doesn't have any.

I'd be really grateful for any advice.
Thanks  :)

Steph.

Thanks thep1pe,

How would those look when fitted to the bike? Ideally I'm after a setup like this:

As far as I can tell the ones on eBay would be the same?

Ah, the picture worked on the preview! Never mind, went for the NOS ones on ebay, seemed too good an opportunity to miss!

Me again....

Finally got my hands on the crash bars today after they got held up at UK customs. However I think I'm having a bit of a blonde moment, and can't work out how they fit to the bike..! :o

Here are some pictures of the crash bars and bike, can anyone give me any clues?

Thanks  :)

Steph.

The short mounting on the crash bars goes on the top engine mounting bracket bolt on the frame tube. The long one goes on the bottom engine mount bolt. You may need longer bolts. Offer the crash bar up to the engine at these points and it will be obvious.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Stick with the one you have. Those other ones look crap. Too flashy stick with the minimal look.

I don't know if you have seen the ones in the link but they are much smaller and just wrap the engine casings. Each to their own. I think Steph's choice will make it look like a Harley cruiser.

Thanks thep1pe, I'll have a look at that in a bit and hopefully all will become clear!

LesterPiglet, these bars aren't the massive ones, although they do stick out a bit, but I like how they look. Plus having just spent money on new side casings I didn't want to cover them up!! :P

Oh no Steph. How un-subtle.
I'm looking for the neater engine bars like these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-HONDA-CB550-CB500-CASE-GUARDS-ENGINE-GUARDS-/220931482210?hash=item33708ae262&item=220931482210&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Just a word of caution.......If you are not in the USA,make sure that you ask this guy about his shipping costs,I got burned for $40 extra because his site quoted shipping costs with USPS,and he shipped with UPS,I'm in Canada and we all know what UPS does to Canadians..
1978 cb 550k......stock,my first re-build

Loud pipes suck.......

If you buy something.........pay for it !
If you sell something .......ship it !
If you say you are going to do something......do it !
If you have a question about something......ask it !
When the seller answers ........let him know whether you still want it or not !
If you receive something .....let the seller know you got it !
If you get something and are happy/un happy with it .....let the giver/seller know !
If you have any kind of issue,shipping/receiving/quality/price/shipping charges etc !
Communicate
