I scored today
« on: October 29, 2012, 03:35:25 AM »
I got a phone call today from a mate, his next door neighbour was selling his bikes.  He had a CB350 and a Suzuki A100.  I went around for a look after work, the A100 is pretty much toast.  The 350 on the other hand is half way through a resto and not in too bad condition other than being completely dismantled.  I asked the guy how much he wanted for them and he said "Make me an offer."  I offered $50 for the pair expecting to be turned down and he agreed ;D, keeping in mind that around here I could sell the A100 as is for $200-$300.  The Suzuki I don't particularly care about, but the Honda I was definately interested in.  I have got another A100 I'm currently working on so this one will be good for parts, I guess.  The Honda I loaded into the back of my car and the Suzuki I will go pick up in the next couple of days. ;D  Now to go find some room in the shed to squeeze the 350 in.

After a quick search of the VIN it is a 1970 CB350K2  ;D

I started playing with the 350 today, the engine wouldn't turn over. I pulled the stator cover off and the chain from the starter was wrapped around the gear and jamming the engine. I fixed that and the motor rolled over nice and easy ;D.  I also checked the carbs, the diaphragms on both are in good condition.  One carb is clean as a whistle (considering the bike has been sitting since 1980) the other carb looks like it spent some serious time as part of an artificial reef.

I've also seen way too many bikes that the owners want top dollar for, I felt very comfortable laying down $50 for this pair of bikes, I have since found out that the A100 may be a rarer model than I previously thought.  Check out the front guard, the rear guard, the seat, handlebars, exhaust and also the two rails that come down under the engine.  All these are different to the standard A100, also the rear wheel has two different sprockets on it and heaps of adjustment in the swingarm to allow for use of both sprockets.  I have searched and haven't managed to dig up any info on it.  All these differences appear to be stock from factory.  The TS100 is very similar in overall appearance, but it has a different frame and engine.  I have even been to see a mate of mine who owned a Suzuki dealership in the 70's, 80's and early 90's he has never seen anything like it before either, so I'm not sure what I have.

That's what it looks like doesn't it.  What seems odd is it still has a pressed tin frame.  They did make an A100 Enduro, but it had a tube frame and different front guard.

I bought a motorhome once and the generator would not run.  When I pulled the fuel bowl it looked like yours.  Once I cleaned it, it fired right up.  Don't get discouraged.  It will clean up OK.

I'm not discouraged, I have brought worse back from the dead.  It is just another job to do.
