I have newly polished covers on my 550 ad was wondering which polish is better to keep them nice and shiny with routine upkeep. Also, how often ?

I had the same question a few months ago. I bought the blue magic on the forks. They have yet to dull sitting my my cold ass garage. Nor has the snow messed up the polish. Yes, a little snow got on the forks when the kids left the garage open to go sledding.

Is it just wipe on wipe off application.

I stripped the forks with a brass wire wheel. I then proceeded with a black, white and blue polishing bar compound. Then I used the blue magic. By hand it didn't impress but with the bench grinder it sure did. I used it for the protection factor as it stated..

So if my covers are already at a nice mirror polish it should work well for keeping the shine if used regularly?

i used Blue Magic (and had one of those red polishing foam balls chucked on my hand drill) worked great on pretty much everything. rims and spokes especially.

That is my goal. I will let you know if there is any dulling in the future

never dull works pretty good on stuff that has been polished already.i polished my cases on my 550 about 4yrs ago they were getting a little dull and i hit them with some never dull and it worked great.

Does the Never Dull give any protection after it's been applied ? I like the stuff very much.

Flitz for everything except plastic. I really haven't found anything better.

Even after machine buffing my aluminum, i always give it a final buff with mothers and a terry cloth. I havent used the blue magic in a long time, isn't it more of an overall metal polish? Mothers is formulated just for aluminum. I dunno, if you take your time on the whole process then i suppose the worst polish will get it done.

i don't think it gives a very good protectant coat.
also i guess i'm going to go to ace hardware and get me some flitz and try that.

Ah, well, I get mine from Ace so I guess I just assumed HD would carry it. Try Ace, and I've seen it at Auto Zone as well.

I like Flitz because it has no abrasives, so it's great for polished aluminum, chrome, etc.

well i bought a bottle of this stuff it works good so now i'm going to have to take my forks i just put on back off and get them nice and clean also is it me or does this stuff smell like pumpkin seeds. weird

To preserve the fresh aluminum shine after using your favorite polishing product, then applying an automotive grade protectant / sealer is suggested. My choice is Meguiars #20 as it provides a much longer lasting finish compared to using nothing at all or the usual automotive type waxes. #20 is a easy to use liquid. Just wipe on, let dry and wipe off. It also holds up to engine heat and does not turn yellow.
