im bored so heres some info on my civic.
« on: May 31, 2006, 09:06:33 AM »
Okay, so heres the 1993 Honda Civic EX same engine as Si trim(D16Z6 engine, 1.6 liter, SOHC, Vtec, somewhere around 115hp-120hp)
The car was bone stock when i got it from my neighbor, he didnt really like imports and just saw it as a peice of #$%* and wanted it out of his yard, boy is he pissed now haha. Not really, he says i "botched" it but w/e. its nothing fast with the stock motor, but with the B16A2(dohc, vtec, 1.6, 170hp) it should be a fun little car still getting 34mpg, and i already have an ITR(integra type r) header and some integra GSR cams lined up so ishould have about 175hp being realistic since the motor has about 40,000 miles on it,it probably has lost some hp. the cams and header should add about 10-15(thats my guess). but i really like it since it has power everything and a/c and its just a really clean car. My buddy has a DX(non vtec) civic he just sold for $2200 and his was in worse shape than mine so hopefully i can get my $2400 for the motor back out of it haha.

RECENT ADD ONS
i have these coilovers(really just adjustable springs) DONT BUY THESE there stiff as a rockbut they look very cool but they do there job, stiffen it up and lower it down, thats what the good ones do right?

thse adjustable ball joints(so i can lower it up to 4 inchs and keep my camber correct

these rear adjustable camber links

The civic i got for $500

The supposidly BLOWN motor

the reason it was $500? supposidly a BLOWN MOTOR haha

painted the hood black(its clear coat was chipping off and i love the black hood look)

the very clean interior(the guy that owned it before me bought it new and he was like 50)

The rebuild head

The new 4-2-1 header and head

one of the smoothed out out exhaust ports

Engine BEFORE AND AFTER

my nifty little induction idea

Little intake pipe sticking out

The engine that i will be getting(already ordered, should be here next monday from japan)..$2400.00

All that money & time spent on a car that will still only run high 14's on a good day  ::)
More power to you for doing what you want. If you wanna go fast, buy yourself a used
fox body mustang, or a mid 90's supra, or a 4gen camaro/trans-am.

Never understood why people start off with slow cars, only to dump crazy amounts of money
into them to end up with the power that one of the above mentioned cars has from the factory...?

My 4cents..

Teal you should know there are specific classes for these and its not the speed but the consistency if he intends to race it.
If thats what he wants to do more power.

Terry -->
I am fully aware of classes, and that people need to follow certain "rules" to be eligible to compete in them.
All I said was, I dont get the mindset of taking a car that isn't fast, nor meant to go fast, and dumping TONS of cash on overpriced/under-enginered parts to make it JUST as fast as a stock American V8 car (Or turbo supra just say)..

Not really, he says i "ED" it up but w/e.

Well it's a funny thing, like Proty, I do like American iron, but recently I bought my wife a little Hyundai Excel front wheel drive Korean #$%*box, and I really like it.

For what it is, it hammers, and will leave most V8's off the line, although of course they'll pick me off after a few hundred feet, but generally, they have to break the law to do it. It's taken me quite awhile, but I'm beginning to understand why these small Asian cars are becoming so popular with kids.

The fuel economy is quite astounding too, very similar to my CB750 but of course I can cart my family of four around, so I guess that makes it almost twice as economical?

For the initial 500 buck investment I reckon you've done real well mate, and I checked with the rest of the Mill Park Klaven of the KKK, and we're not the least bit offended by your "racial" slur, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I'm a bit worried about that "induction pipe" though, is that feeding air through the filter on the inside? If so, the filter isn't actually filtering anything, so it's just sucking dirty air?  ???

some people....like i said, hondas arent made to be drag cars, so pull out one of ur 9 second mustang drag cars and lets do some laps at Road Atlanta...thats the thing im goin for, if i wanted to just have a FAST car, id get a V8 but life isnt that simple nowadays, the road called life isnt straight, its full of turns and u need a car that can take them haha.

Yea the thing about the BLOWN MOTOR, the guy i bought it from said i could have it for 500 because it had a BLOWN MOTOR, so i started it up and drove it home haha, it was just one chipped valve making it run kinda funny.

Hey buddy, Don't start telling me about how life has "turns" with you being under the legal drinking age. I have a few years over you, and have seen life's "turns" up close and personal.

Their are plenty of muscle cars that will tear it up on the road courses. My buddy has a 69 camaro that holds the lap record at Road American in WI for the SCCA. All I was saying is that I don't see why people dump cash into those cars, only to have the same HP/Toqure as other cars put out of the showroom.

It is obvious that you cant take an opinion for what it is worth. Same as the last post about you selling your bike. When you got responses that weren't of the $5,000 price range, you fired back hard.

I am done with this topic, and done with you...

I'm not a huge fan of the import racing scene, but I can respect what those guys are doing.  Kind of what was going on in the 50's with the hot-rodded Model T's -- you take what you can get and try to make it faster.  A lot of kids get their parent's old commuter Honda to drive, and it just kind of takes off from there.

It takes a lot of time and money to get V-8 power from a Civic, but remember that Civic weighs about 1,000 lbs less than any domestic V-8 car.  Of course, if they add 1000 lbs. of wings, neon lights, tv screens, amps and subwoofers, that all goes to crap.

AntiRiceCRX - check out turboedit.net, its my old roommates site and its a great way to turn your car w/o having to spend big money.

Couple reason:
Personal Taste, which is everything from brand loyalty and the fact that not everyone likes the fox body mustang
Cost of the item and the condition there in. You can pick up a civic in good condition for low dollars.
Weight
Potential
etc etc.....

Thats just an ignorant statement, not trying to be a d__k but it is what it is. I know a decent amount of civics running around KC that run in the 12's be it NA B18's our pushed to the limit sohc D16 turbo's. So your still thinking hmm twelves is pretty low compaired to what your fox body can do? Well first consider the weight of the car, the actuall power they are getting out of that tiny engine and then tell me thats just not cool. Plus you can do that for cheap... Well all cannot afford vetts...

Here is my old roommates current civic which he has done all the work himself out of his garage. I assure you it runs a lot better then 14's and would humble a lot of domestic cars. The thing is that he doesnt car about that stuff.. he is just a car enthusiast and loves tooling on engine but in this case he prefers a challange.

Personally I would rock a early 90's Nissan 240sx(used to own a 91) w/ either a turbo'd KA or a RB, flat out one of the best plateforms to make a kick butt road race car, drag car or multi-purpose car.

I understand all of that, I really do.
The bottom line is, he can/will do whatever he wants to do, but he should expect people to voice their opinions on what he posts, weather he approves of it or not..I am entitled to my opinion, just like everyone else is on this board, in life, etc...

And as far as the "term" he used, it has no place in this forum. He doesn't know if their are any African American users on this board. I am not , but I was/still/ am offended.

He is just showing his age, or lack of the more he posts..

seems like you're firing back even harder proteal... and it's not even your vehicles we're talking about.  anti rice is allowed to have an opinion and so are you.  you obviously both have many.

let's put it another way... proteal rides a 750 because he's engine hungry
heffay rides a 350 cafe because he's style hungry

heffay would still talk all sorts of talk cuz he's got proteal trying to keep up in the twisties when he can't because his bike is a tank.
that is all antirice is doing because he likes what he's done to his car.
i don't believe he started this thread just to piss off america... i think its funny how we all love our honda motorcycles but rip on the cars... what is that all about?  we rip on them so much that we even write off the forum member that owns them... you meet the nicest people on a honda... but, sometimes they are not very nice at all!

antirice~  please remove the "african american" comment or it will be removed for you.

not taking sides here but for comparison purposes.i had a 72 plymouth duster that weighed about 2800 pounds.this car had a mildly built 340 with a 430 gear, auto trans.i put this together for about 5 thousand dollars.the car ran 12.40`s with no tuning whatsoever.i dont think you can take a tuner car and do the same thing for the same money.

i think this thread is a perfect example of comparing apples and oranges.

if you want the apple to taste like an orange just eat the friggin apple and vice versa.

if you like american muscle and the gas hungry ideals that it stands for... get a muscle car
if you like the "economical" overseas built cars and all the rice burner jokes that come with... get a honsukiyota

either way, there is no need to start a flame war over opinions that most likely will not change.

Nissan 240sx(s13) w/ an SR20 mildly turned will run 12's. This discussion of domestic vs foreign needs to end since its complet stupidity. I can play the compair game all day... In the end the question is are you an enthusiast or brand whore...

Boy o Boy.  Such hostility.  Anti was just sharing his car with everyone.  It wasn't a mine is bigger than your's thing.  Not sure why it turned into it.

I personally was not offended by the said racial slur as it was a quote from someone else and not to be READ as anything else or implied as anything else.  Stop making fights for the sake of it.  This is a cool forum, lets keep it that way.

oh it cant end yet not quite.

Sure you cant take any little honda car and beat a v8 but you can still beat it off the line, I beat a mustang 5.0 magnum with a little 4 banger s10 off the line, I had NO mods at all. While I was beating the stang till about 50 mph, I was doing it while getting 25 mpg. that mustang was getting what, maybe 15? So he beats me in top speed, I beat him off the line AND in the amoung of gas NOT used. On top of that, my s10 probably had a tighter turn and probably handled just as well.

sure an american muscle(gas hog) car will probably win in a straightline run, it will likely lose in off the line and cornering. Simple weight.

Also, there is the fact that many of these "tuners" can go neck and neck with ANY old muscle car. HELL many NEW cars could beat a muscle off the showroom floor.

Now I am not saying we do not have any good fast cars, just saying that these little cars can, with the right amount of work, stick with anything we have aside from a viper or something in that class. But then those cars are going to cost WAY more than a tuner by FAR.

As for cost, I have seen the cost of a poorly restored muscle and it was not cheap. I think cost is a non-issue on this. Look at what someone will spend for a simple motorcycle part on ebay. I would not spend 1 penny more for sandcast than anything else cause to me sandcast means nothing.

besides, I could spend less on a new motorcycle and blow almost ANY car away. but then that is apples to oranges isnt it, kinda like a 4 cylinder and an 8.

but isnt that always the issue?

Say a person spent $25000 on a mustang and another spent $5000 on a little honda and put in $20000 worth of parts and work. Say the little honda beats the mustang, which person then wasted their money? $25000 for both, one person got a factory car and the other got a fully tricked out kart.

what if the honda did it and only cost 10000? would that make it much better then? when a person is going after a certain performance level, is it possible they spend too much? if you were that person, you would not think so.

I myself probably would not buy an american sports car if I had the money. I would get myself an ultima gtr which I can build myself if I so want that has a 0 - 60 time of slightly over 3 seconds and a 0 - 100 time of about 8 seconds.......STANDARD

It was the test bed for the engine in the mclaren f1.  has over a 1G on the skidpad.  not much in the US would touch it. and it is WAY less than most ferraris.

It is all relative to the person it concerns.

but then they would have spent 45000 going by my example but that honda will still probably out-corner it. kinda like comparing a 400 to a 750.
