CB500F '71 - 520 Chain & Sprockets
« on: March 09, 2012, 02:20:03 AM »
Hi guys,

I've always ran 520 chains on my race bikes (modern sportbikes) and never had an issue. In my experience they tend to last long enough so that cost is not an issue and that's on a bike spitting around 115-120hp at the rear wheel. So I was wondering why not run one on the CB500?? With around 50hp (if lucky) the chain should probably last a lot longer and it is also a lot lighter than the 530 is has on standard, so it might even improve performance slightly.

Does anyone know if this can be done and how?

I'm assuming I'll need some spacers?

Where can I get sprockets for it??

Cheers,

Ed.

Hi Ed, I have 520's on two 550's. (one a 520 o-ring) These chains are more than up to it on these bikes. I bought alloy rears from www.sprocketspecialists.com, and fronts from JT sprockets although there certainly are others.

Cool, thanks mate! I've sent Sprocketspecialists an email asking for the sprockets since they don't show on their catalog (or at least I didn't see them!). I have a brand new 520 DID EVR3 chain that I keep as a spare to my race bike and since it's been sitting here for nearly 3 years now I was thinking of using it on the CB500. Hopefully it will work fine.

Do you know the part # of your JT front sprocket by any chance? I'm finding it impossible to find any info on this...

Cheers,
Ed.
