LED turn signal question
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:26:02 PM »
For those of you using front led signals, where did you mount your resistors?  These things can get a bit warm and I don't really want to put them in the headlight bucket.  Any thoughts or pics greatly appreciated.

I thought you could get bulbs with built in resistors look here to find out. Or do you do it through the flasher. Maybe some one who has done it will chime in. So here is a bump. I do know in the past it was a pain in the a.. But not so much now with the newer bulbs.

find a 2 prong flasher made for leds, they'll work both reg & led bulbs.

Perhaps I am an idjit (this would not be the first time) but I have an electronic flasher for the rear blinkers.  I was under the impression that the front blinkers do not have separate flasher relay?  Maybe I just need to review my wiring diagram again.  :P

One flasher works all four.

Not all electronic flashers work for LEDs, you need a LED specific one. 1 flasher does all the signals.

No, they are wired through the same flasher unless you wiring harness has been unnecessarily molested.

I had to run standard bulbs in the back even though I replaced the stock flasher on my bike with the LED flasher from superbrightleds.com .
When I attempted to run LEDS on the front and back it did not present enough of a load to trip the flashers.

That's OK because the rears are only used when I flip the turn signal so not a whole lot of wattage is wasted. The LEDS are in the front where they are used as running lights and turn signals so I can save a few watts.

Ah ha.  I have reviewed the wiring and see where I missed the connection.  Thanks for all your help, it's been invaluable!

I've got LED's on my 550 using nothing more than a 2 prong electronic flasher I picked up at the local auto parts store and it works like a charm.
