Change your entire way of thinking.

It is NOT like that survivor TV program. Instead... get together with your friends and help each other. NOT cut each others throats.

This is what is missed in all this survivalist stuff.  The main reason why humans are everywhere (besides the fact that the human female ovulates 12 times a year) is that people cooperate with each other, not because we are hermits in an every-man-for-himself dog-eat-dog world.

These days I think "Soylent Green" might be a more pertinent choice..  :(

I think you are very insightful.  These survivalist types will probably be among the first to die off or kill one another.  You need a group or community cooperating with wide ranging skills to survive long term.

This is true however like it or not one of those skills will be to defend yourself along with the gatherers and hunters from people who don't think like you. It has been like this from the beginning and you are not going to change it with words. Sad but true So grow the food build the community and I will keep the bad guys off your back.

I'd imagine that a CB would run post EMP.  Magnetism does strange things though- I would wonder if maybe the charging system (Which relies on magnetic inductance) might malfunction, but even that doesn't seem very likely.

As for what I'd do with my CB if the end were here?  Ride.  Acceptable fuel mileage and reliable enough to go anywhere.  Fast enough to get away from hillbilly trucks, etc.

A motorcycle driven generator sounds interesting...

Thank the lord someone bit on to my cb driven generator head. DO IT DO IT DO IT... lol i just want to see a literally cafe'd out cb with just the rear wheel removed and a big ass head put in its place. That would be awesome.

The first thing to plug in would be ????

Fan ;D

A laptop so you could show off your generator driven by a motorcycle on this forum.. :)

And that show is hilarious.  I like the fat girl that says shes got "more to loose" than the average person and will survive longer on her fat and food stores.

We'll eat the fat ones first..... ;D

thats almost exactly what I told my wife when she said that. She would likely be seen as food to someone.
I saw that prepper who got his finger and passed out. That may cause an issue during a fire fight.

A mini version.  Remember the blackout of August 2003? 45 million people affected.  Not as bad as it could have been.  I lived close a gas station.  It was one of the few in the county to get power restored after 2 days.  The lines stretched for blocks in every direction.  Most people were orderly, but there was a few who tried to cut in front of everyone.  That got ugly in a hurry.  I remember a couple of teenagers buying a few cases of water for 2.99 a case and reselling them for 3.00 a bottle.  At night there were a few cars slowly driving through the neighborhood with no lights looking at houses.  It took a few weeks for the stores to replenish batteries, bottled water etc.  And this was only about 3 days total.

Did you mean "Bartertown"?

Doomsday does not sound too cool...But if it does turn out like Mad Max, where do I sign up for the black supercharged interceptors?  Wouldn't have a drop of gas to run it, but it'd be cool to look at in the garage...

I never said it would be a picnic.  If the balloon goes up, anybody in or near dense population centers are going to have big problems.  People in less densely populated agricultural areas will have a better chance, I think.  You know, the kind of places where everybody knows their neighbor and where people actually grow their own food and are not so dependent on a complex infrastructure to provide basic needs.  They tend to be well armed, too.  Kind of like Idaho, as it turns out.  Don't tell anybody. ;)

If it gets that bad, just take me out!  I am surviving in my war of life and that has taken me a lifetime to prepare for.  I do not want to learn a whole new one instantly.

You can prep all you want, eventually all that prepping will run out.  Even if you become a warlord and have a bunch of people following you and obeying your orders, that will run out too.

Yes Bartertown.

That's when you beat them over the head with the good book and tell them if they do not follow it the flying Spaghetti Monster will smite them down.

That'll get a few hoople heads to follow and fall in line.

A lot of people think that way.  The more there are with that mindset, the more it will simplify things for those that choose to persevere. ;)

Honastly, I think that everyone here has made good points. If we each took a little info from everyone it would probably work out well. So.... with that said as soon as i find a way to steer my rocket propelled 550, I'm goin to the moon with my space suite on.

This is exactly what could happen in Communities that can be largely self sustaining.  They will form a Community. leverage their expertise in agriculture and other skills. They will also provide for their own defense. Just like Colonial America.

When the cities run out of stuff to rob from the populace.  The Bloods, the Crips, the Hell's Angels, The ABCs, MS13s, the remnants of police forces nationwide, and national guard forces who have access to the good toys and have been practicing "people control" for a very long time, will use the same tactics to enslave any community capable of sustenance, be it city, suburban, or remote (eventually).

What has me wondering, is where I can buy a "space suite"?  What are it's accommodations?  Is it really compact enough to pack on a 550?  ;D

The though of having to live like that and saving the only two bullets left for my boy and myself is unthinkable for me.  Yes, an outstanding movie.
