This is true however like it or not one of those skills will be to defend yourself along with the gatherers and hunters from people who don't think like you.

I never said it would be a picnic.  If the balloon goes up, anybody in or near dense population centers are going to have big problems.  People in less densely populated agricultural areas will have a better chance, I think.  You know, the kind of places where everybody knows their neighbor and where people actually grow their own food and are not so dependent on a complex infrastructure to provide basic needs.  They tend to be well armed, too.  Kind of like Idaho, as it turns out.  Don't tell anybody. ;)

When the cities run out of stuff to rob from the populace.  The Bloods, the Crips, the Hell's Angels, The ABCs, MS13s, the remnants of police forces nationwide, and national guard forces who have access to the good toys and have been practicing "people control" for a very long time, will use the same tactics to enslave any community capable of sustenance, be it city, suburban, or remote (eventually).
If you don't give, join with something to offer, or pledge allegiance/subservience to the megalomaniac du jour, you're fertilizer.

.......
What has me wondering, is where I can buy a "space suite"?  What are it's accommodations?  Is it really compact enough to pack on a 550?  ;D

Don't doubt the resolve of either faction fighting for survival, apparent or imagined.

Home turf only helps those prepared to take advantage of it.
History is fraught with despotic rulers in bands both big and small that were never overthrown by the indigenous populace.

And as I recall, the American Indian was defending home turf and had military style training.  Other historical examples abound.  How do you suppose empires expand?

The US only survived/endured because it became too costly for the perceived benefit of bringing the (outcast) populace under submission.  If Britain's aristocracy was fighting for its ultimate survival, the outcome would have been different.

Cheers,
The Native American genocide went well into the 1900's most of it crude biological warfare.

The British did give up. We did not really defeat them.

One only need to look back a Vietnam to see how conviction and home turf can stymie a well equipped force. The Crips, Blood's and the Angels would be exterminated in rural America. They would hold the cities.

Well, I can sense your feeling of imminent desperation as I too need my insulin to live another day.  I would remove my electronic ignition system as it would not deal with the EMP .  Naturally, I would get as much ammo as possible and head for the hills.  I am never very sure what I would find in the hills but that is where everyone heads.  If I could find some magic mushrooms I would be in fine shape for whatever comes our way, me and my CB500.

If a "doomsday" scenario ever does occur, I think we would see a major depletion of the human population. As Darwin's theory comes into full effect...

Smashing Pumpkins - Doomsday Clock [Black Screen]

Jimmy Chaimberlin is one of my favorite drummers, but that doesnt change the fact that Billy Corgan eats fetus's.

As a matter of fact if Doomsday does come Billy Corgan is exactly the type of character I'm staying away from. If he doesnt eat babies already he would if it depended on his survival. He's got the perfect grille for it. Anyone who doesn't know Billy Corgan, think Baraka from Mortal Combat without blades for arms. Although if you dont know the Smashing Pumpkins you probably dont know Mortal Combat.

I live in L.A. cali... so yes, I do have food for my son and I for about a year an the guns and ammo to protect us... Am I a domes dayer...Maybe... Have I lived threw the Northridge earthquake with the only house in the block with power because of a Generator... I also lived threw the Rodney King riots first hand and road around with a .357 between my seats.. So the ones that think something is going to happen and are ready will be fine.. We don't worry... the ones that think our goverment will help us, will be lost... I was watching a show about the tsunami and one guy said while he watched his house wash away say.. "Its all gone the house, the car, everything is gone.. Is the goverment going to help us?.. No..I don't think so.." As far as my CB.. shes goin in one of my trucks when the gas gets low... I drive it now to work twice a week to save gas.. The people on the show were picked because they are the extreme... So most people will think preppers are crazy people, and say to themselves, I'm not like those, I don't have to save food and I don't want a gun!! So most will not do anything an they will be easily controled... Remember the soup lines of the depression.."They didn't save anything..." Henry Ford close his factories and went camping those years... So call me crazy!!!.. His hope and change is not your hope and change..

So call me crazy!!!..

I won't.  Whether TEOTWAWKI happens this year or not, a Katrina type disaster can occur anywhere, whether it be caused by weather, earthquakes, tsunami, civil unrest, extensive power outages or whatever.  Those that don't prepare at least a little for something like that are a little foolish.

It would be quite foolish not to prepare for a disruption due to weather or some silliness. Have some food around, a generator, and a weapon and some ammo would not be unusual or paranoid behavior.

Totally agree with that.

I my younger years, I made a point to at least learn about survival methods.  Made plans and a bit of a stock pile.  However, the best plans fail if the body fails, and age takes it's toll.  In any conflict, the aged and the young suffer the most and are most at mercy of some benevolent faction or tendency.  Now, I can't imagine I'd last a year should the worst actually occur.

The meek will not inherit the earth unless subservient to the strong (or well positioned among the remaining society).  This is how it all began with Homo sapiens, and while we have more accumulated knowledge to access now, we aren't any smarter today that when it all began, and we still have the same instincts and base behavior traits as part of our construction.

As a society, we still murder, enslave, and oppress given the opportunity or "need".  Some traits are suppressed with societal agreement/guidelines, but it is still ingrained.

Abrogate the "agreement and guidelines", and the traits become prominent.

As to the CB's, if you think gas is "the" problem.  Best to review clean potable water sources first.  Without water, gas and CB's (EMP or not) won't mater nearly as much to you.

Oh, you DO have a manual tire pump, right?  And a spare, dry battery that can be activated in 3-5 years?

A sad part is that kids will still be born.  Although that will continue life, still a sad thought of a kid being born into it.

No one mentioned clean drinkable water?  The cities will be deserted becuase there is no sustainable supply of clean drinkable water once the power grid goes down.  Head for the Great Lakes to build a community.  How long before they become poluted as well.

Someone mentioned the War of 1812.  The battle of New Orleans was indeed fought after the Treaty of Ghent was decided.  The U.S. had its biggest victory over the British and put to rest any thoughts of Britian trying to retake its colonies.  The battle was basically a massacre with the U.S. decimating the British.  There were many reasons for this namely bad communication and bad decisions on the part of the British and Andrew Jackson's dictatorial rule over the city and its inhabitants.  Jackson executed several American militia men for deserting during the battle and defied court orders to relinquish control over the city after the battle.  Militia desertions were a common practice during the war and usually there was no penalty enforced.  Anyway he made it on the $20 and became president and a national hero becuase of his victory.  Sorry for the rant but its the bicentenial of the War of 1812 and its kind of a big deal on the Buffalo State College campus seeing as we were burned to the ground by the British/Canadians during the war in retaliation for the burning of York (Toronto).  The War of 1812 was a mistake on both sides and part of a larger war between Britain and France.  By itself its a mashup of bad decisions and cowardice.  In the context of the Napoleonic wars it was the last frontier/battleground.

Funny thread from my side of the pond. I've never met anyone who has ever discussed this subject, but then most of the natives don't give a fork.  ;D
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
