KONI shocks where not "stock" on any Honda MC.  They are aftermarket performance parts.

Most sizes are still available under the trade name IKON.

Classic KONI shocks come up on eBay, restoreable units go for about $100.

This is a set I restored last year.

The spring compressor is for dissassembling the shocks, you dont need one to simply remove them from the bike.

If you have a drill press, (need about 15inches of room) easy to make a  shocktake-aparter...

Do we know of anyone who sells rebuilt units?

How about brand-spanking new ones from Ikon?

There is a guy on the feEbay called the KoniKing or something like that that rebuilds the old Koni's.

Make something to attach the loer ende of shock FIRMLY to table..it should not be able to kick sideways..very unsafe. '
Make a collar for the top end, easier if its machined.. needs a hole aboout 20 thou bigger than your split collars and a lip to hold the spring. this collar needs standoffs to a plate above it, with a stud welded in the middle..that fits into your drill chuck, use drill handle to compress shock and get collars out.
You need about an inch and ahalf of down movement , before taking shock apart, as spring get longer when decompressed. If the procedure is difficult or dangerous, lifting table may help.. I do mine on the lathe, then I CAN LET GO OF IT AND STAYS IN PLACE.
I use similar setups to remove valvesprings..

I made this tool using 3/4' plywood and 2" PVC pipe. It is held together with hose clamps & gorilla glue.

I use a small hydraulic Jack, and a 4x4x 7' to compress the spring across the bottom of my garage door opening.  (Although Nikkisixx's hydraulic press is much more convenient.)

Ikon is said to have parts, I was unable to verify.

I wood use metal for the plates, Aluminum, is not much harder to work than Wood.
If you use two pieces of 3/8 reddi-rod  & washers,  on the sides of your setup you wont need to use the jack

you can use two parallel short pieces of angle iron on either side of the shocks, fit them into the springs, hold them together, and press down. the shock body goes in a vise or strapped to something stable. get somebody to flip the holders out with a screwdriver.
use caution and stay out of the way of the path of the spring, i agree you have to be careful, but the forces here are not unmanageable, not like car springs .

I like the idea of using some threaded rod, it is a bit of a pain with the hydraulics.

Nice thing about wood is it does not scar the polished aluminum.
