K&N style (single) filter using stock airbox
« on: March 08, 2012, 11:04:21 AM »
I have seen small discussions here and their on air filters and one I was not able to narrow down was the design idea of using the stock air box  and attaching an aftermarket filter to the single opening behind that. ( I have relocated the electronics / battery, etc) to have the non-side cover look) Based on that, I have room for this option. And to be honest, budget is always a reality and purchasing the 4 individual filters is the look I want but was open to the single filter idea.

I have seen pictures on here before with people who had this setup but just wanted to know what filter they used and was there something very close in measurements that made fitting it easy? Any of you out there got this single filter setup, or have experience with what was used?

thanks in advance.

Paul

I also wanted to use a K&N air filter but could not find any direct replacements for the stock air filter.  I did not want to use pods.  I finally found a Harley K&N filter and decided to put the filter element into a stock filter case.  I first burned out the paper element and adhesive in the stock box.  Then I cut the K&N element to fit and epoxy glued the unit back together again. I will post a picture later.

Here is a picture of the completed project.  It has worked well for about 6 years now.

hehehe

this k&n setup is for a cb550. its awesome btw but i was lucky to find these 2 in a junkyard. they do not make them anymore. but the bracket is easily made and you can find a filter that is the exact same size is that.

the pod filters are bad. u need at least a little section that fits into the 4 inlets so you dont have that air turbulence or whatever all these old guys on here fight about.
