tank work - ontario
« on: March 08, 2012, 01:04:00 PM »
Hi,

I have a gs450 tank with a pin hole or two, some minor rusting (paint is all striped), and in need of a fix up.

any advice? should i tackle myself with JB weld and POR 15 and some primer?  or, does anyone know a decent shop or 'guy' for this type of stuff?

ANY thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I wouldn't go with the JB Weld, but rather try to get some proper gas tank putty (CTC carry some I believe) to seal the pinholes.  If they are on the bottom edge of the tank (as they usually are), then this patching shouldn't be too visible.  Then I'd recommend using POR 15 to seal the tank interior, after which the exterior can be re-painted or touched-up if necessary.

I guess HondanutRider assumed you're located in Canada too.  CTC=Canadian Tire Corporation

The stuff I've successfully used was Permatex Gas Tank & Radiator Repair (No 12020)
CTC aka Crappy Tire
