There is no reason it would not work, the scale is printed twice and reversed so you can use it vertical or horizontal. However, The reason you want 4 gauges or mercury sticks is so you can see what each carb is doing at the same time. It's not that critical on mechanical carbs, but I have synched CV's before, and had what I was doing to one affect the others.

Seems like a pretty easy alternative....

It only seems that way until you try it.  You need 4 gauges connected simultaneously to synchronize 4 carbs accurately and within any reasonable amount of time.

As with any multiple carb set-up, adjusting one carb on a twin carb VW engine will affect the vacuum of the other carb, but this isn't a big issue because you just go back and forth a few times and you have them synched.  Adding two more carbs means any adjustment to one carb affects three others.  So you go to readjust one of the other carbs to match the first carb, and you go back and forth until they match, and then the other two are out of adjustment.  Repeat ad nauseam.

Sure, if you have a later model with the fixed #2 carb this will be somewhat less of a hassle, but you still have any adjustment to one carb affecting two others, and then any subsequent adjustment to one of those two affecting the other two.  So you end up going back and forth with the gauge, over and over again, while your makeshift temporary gas tank runs empty and your engine overheats.

Used that kind on a set of Webers, the owner provided it...it worked ok on an automobile. I dont think there is room for it on a sohc4. Plus, the choke plates will most likely be in the way.
