What bearings for 77Gl forks to 75 Cb750
« on: June 01, 2006, 01:39:24 AM »
I searches the forums and looked at the FAQs, and I haven't been able to find a post that stated exactly what I need to do to adapt the 77 Gl1000 frontend to my Cb. I found one and it said the 77 had different bearing sizes than the 75-76 Gl. My Gl frontend has tapered roller bearings, I don't know if someone changed them? What bearing or bearings do I need to buy to put this on a 75 Cb750? Thanks, Jimmy

For a stock triple tree on a 1977/78 K I used a set or All Balls Racing tapered bearing set # 12-1431 from Dennis Kirk for $40.99 plus shipping.  Top bearing is 26x48.5 and the bottom is 30x50.  I hope this helps.

Your gonna have to press out the steering stems and swap them......in other words, put the CB750 stem into the 77 GL lower triple clamp....then use the 75 CB750 bearings.

Here are the bearing sizes for bot bikes:

77 GL1000
Upper: 25x47x15
Lower: 30x55x17

75 CB750
Upper: 26x48.5x15.2
Lower: 30x50x14.4

There is a complete listing of bearing sizes and fork sizes at my website....look under "Tech Tips".

wow, that really sucks. One of the main reasons I was doing this is because I thought I would just have to use two different bearings, not have someone press the stem out! Maybe when people post about goldwing frontend swaps they should say 75-76 instead of 75-77 like I've seen. Any ideas on where I can go to have this done? Thanks, Jimmy.

Well I would guess that most people looking to install a gl front end on a cb are doing it to gain dual discs while keeping the look of spoke wheels.  So since the 77 gl has comstars then I wonder why go to the trouble of using Gl parts when you can more easily install a F2 or F3 front end and get comstars and dual discs?

The 77 Gl doesn't have comstars. It was the last year for spokes. Jimmy
