Any Carb Cleaner Recommendations
« on: June 02, 2006, 05:16:15 AM »
I am about to take on my carb cleaning/rebuild/adjustments this weekend, but before I begin, I was wondering if anyone has come across a "go to" carb cleaner or carb dip - ya know, something that they trust and works very well.  And in the same breath, carb cleaners to stay away from.  Thanks.

I first tried ChemDip, yuck, nasty, etc. The used Yamaha, much better, freindlier won't harm rubber parts.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Many discussions on this subject and the general consensus is that the Yamy stuff is the best.

Funnily enough, I went into my local Yamaha dealer to buy some and they said "don't use it here mate - we use Wurth carb cleaner!"

...I've used Chemdip, which I guess I would call decent.  At some point I'm gonna try some of the Yami stuff.

I think I've used the Yamaha cleaner at least 100 times...the best product I've found. ;)

I always used Yamaha carb cleaner, when the boss wasnt too cheap to buy it ( it saves time and money in the long run) The Wurth stuff works and is cheaper but I've never used Wurth dip type, only the aerosols

I just used Chem Dip in the past two days.  I think it is terrific.  It cleans the entire carb so that it is factory new.  There is only one problem.  I followed the CLYMER book in disassembly and cleaning like a new recruit follows his Sgt. through a mine field.  Now I am finding bits of rubber gasket not mentioned in or indicated by the exploded views in the CLYMERS.  And, I cannot find part numbers for the throttle/carb seals and the choke/carb seals.  Do yourself a favor and get to the dealership and get the spray type.  It won't cost as much as harming a hidden o-ring.   >:( >:(

Good Luck and Take Care.

Definitely Yama stuff where you might get it on soft parts. For the stuff I know has nothing vulnerable, I use Berryman B-12 Carb and Choke Cleaner. Man alive, that stuff hits oil, grease, whatever and Zowie, it gone right now. Don,t let it sit on paint, either. I keep a can of black rattle on hand whenever I clean the bottom of the bike and touch up whatever gets unpainted. B-12 evaporates clean, and quick spray of water and clean an a whistle.

Peace and Long Ride,

Jeff
