Spark problems, kinda weird
« on: July 04, 2013, 05:11:11 PM »
my 1+4 are getting a much smaller spark than 2+3, but 2+3 are barely getting warm.  Now I'm inclined to think that 2+3 are sparking TOO much, and 1+4 are normal.  ... I'm gonna switch the wires to see if the spark changes, but I need ideas.

New coil, new points and condensers, checked all the wiring... idk. I was riding it and all the sudden I lost power on 2 cylinders.... plug caps and plugs are new also.

Errr no.

There is no such thing as too much spark.

As you know one coil fires 1-4 and the other 2-3.

What you are describing sounds like a point gap issue.

Check the timing and gap.

Ps the spark settled down a bit too.  I think it was grounding because the condenser failed.

yes, it just took me a lot of troubleshooting to figure out that my problem was on 2+3, not 1+4.  luckily it finally dawned on me that the 1+4 pipes were the ones getting hot even though i could barely see the spark, so i switched my focus to the other side and then it all became clear.  it would also explain the really weird resistance readings i was getting from the points -- i thought i was just doing something wrong with the multimeter!
