Looks like a solid place to start.  What year is it?

It's a 76 it's not titled so I'm a bit worried there.  I have done the research it's not in DMV database so according to them as long as its verified as not stolen by chp it should be a standard title registration less than $150

Where in California are you?  I just, JUST the other day completed registration on a bike that was completely out of the system...never even registered in California for that matter.  I had the VIN verified by a woman who works at a dealer lot for $40, then took the paperwork, with a bill of sale to the DMV.  With those two things, and an application for a new title I was able to walk out with a new license plate, tags, and a registration card.  $93 :)

My last bike that I went to get titled was pretty easy also.  It was not in the database at all, anywhere, due to being registered last so long ago.  They put it in the computer and as long as it doesn't come up they will give you the title so they can make a buck off of you.

One word of advice, I went to my insurance lady and she got me the bonded title for $100, at the DMV the guy doing the paperwork for me said he thought I paid too much and thought I could get it for $50.  So you might want to look around if your insurance company wants to try and take you.
