RE: $50 solid state Regulator / Rectifier will it work

Quick question since this Regulator / Rectifier is for an 80's honda and has all the correct colors will it work for a CB750?

It's either this one, or the one from Carpy site.

Thanks!

Before you do that, read this thread!  :)

Thanks!  I have glanced at Pinheads mod, but am really looking for more of a plug and play solution as my play / experiment budget is used up on my HEI project for my CB750.

As long as the internal diodes are the same (check the schematic), it will work.

The rectifier section will work fine.  Not so sure about the regulator section is plug and play.
The CB750's field coil grounds one side of the field coil and powers the other.
The DOHC4's regulator provides both power and return to the rotor.
Given the data I found below, I'd be dubious of success claims and suspect the regulator may be damaged unless mods to the SOHC4 alternator field coil is also made.

Perhaps there is a credible reason why the CB750 SOHC4 isn't on the advertiser's fitment list?

Much Thanks TwoTired for helping me dodge this bullet.  Do you have an information / objective opinion on Carpys setup?  That looks like it is specifically made for the SOHC cb750?

Thanks Again!

Check this out.  http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/Reg_rec_units.html

Thanks Cycle Ranger.  Looks like this guy has individual units or combo reg_rec.  The combo units are a little more pricy is there any benefit to the combo vs solo reg and solo rec?

imho, only for ease of install.

I used this regulator on my K5.

I removed the plug and connected it right up.

Here's a picture of the reg and rec I put on my bike.  Total cost for both was under 50 bucks.
(Rectifier was $14 from ebay. $6 for plug kit from Oregon Motorcycle parts. Heat sink from PC.)
The full details are in that thread I posted.
