With both rebates, me doing tear-out and running the refrigeration lines and minimal duct work mine ended up in the hundreds not thousands. Your mileage may vary. My rebates were from taxes and the power co. and yes, a buddy price on the equipment.

The true test will be performance and energy savings, if we spend less per month on energy and finance combined than previous energy bills, that would be a total success, imo... I'll be ok with a little extra per month even.  I don't expect more than a Jackson or two extra tho.

heffay....where in AZ are you? I've got family in Peoria and E Mesa.  I've only heard stories of the AC bills there...but the home prices are super desirable.
Shooting to relo the family down to the Bermuda triangle that is Chandler/Gilbert/QC by the end of the year.

Hef... please don't tell me your running 4 tons of AC in a 1,500 sq. ft house... If you are you have been royally had..... a properly set-up system would not exceed 2T in 1,500 sq. ft.  4T would be very inefficient and produce a lot of condensation in the house........ Waay to much CFM's to work..... just sayin'  :)
The #$%*ty thing about all mechanical/structural things to do with your house is that nowadays YOU need to know MORE than the folks trying to sell you sh1t..... IMHO. Live and learn  ;)

Well, its actually a 3.5, which is what was in there originally.
His calculations that they had in their spreadsheet to come up with the A/C needs were pretty close to that... yes, I understand they can make that #$%* up... but you're too late, god dammit.   :P
Also, we have a lot of vaulted ceilings which may also be why its a little bigger?

I'll let you know if there's condensation, but I can guarantee you there won't be, this is Phoenix... which may be another variable that you don't account for in your calculations.   ;)

I read a little bit here and there about the tonnage, before buying.  It seems that for the most part in Phx, they use the 500sq.ft./ton rule, add the vaulted ceilings into that, and it seems about right.

Already installed, wow, you work quick!

had to, the house was 80 degrees today, was checking in on the ferrets regularly!
