550 seat latch on a 750 ?
« on: June 01, 2006, 02:59:32 PM »
My buddy broke his only key for his 74 750K. Im watching a switch and seat latch for him on the bay for a 74 550. Will the seat latch work on his 750?

Dont know bout that fer sure but do have a 79 650 latch (only US model that had it)  on my 76 360 twin.  Plus a few other bits and pieces.
So I would think so.  MOM has admitted to dropping me on my head though ;D.

So, is the key broken IN the latch?  You can have a new key made from just the number, and you might be able to have a locksmith remove the broken key.  Likely cheaper in the long run, and the ignition will still match the seat.

He said the key fell out while he was riding the bike........dont see how thats possible unless the switch was worn. I thought the key only came out in the off or 2nd position.

Anyway.....he looked for it and found it in the road, after someone had ran over it. It was on a keyring so I guess thats how it broke. Now hes' goofed the switch up so he needs a switch and seatlatch with keys.  ::)  ;D

I've had a 750 seat on a 550! didn't fit well as it was too long but the hinges and latch all matched up perfectly! Opened and closed properly.

Nope.........the ignition switch......but it might as well be the seat lock now that the key is broke.

Thanks for that info Green550F........Im gonna try and get the 550 ign switch and seat lock and see if it will work.
