I came across this and had to laugh....
« on: June 01, 2006, 08:26:16 AM »
This guy doesn't know anything about the bike that he is selling.  Be sure to read his description.  "It was the first year that the bike came with an electric start: Honda anticipated that some folks might not trust the newfangled electric starter, so in '74, and '74 only, the bikes came with BOTH the electric start and the chrome kick starter. The kick starter actually works, and once I start the bike and get it warmed up for the day, I only use the kick starter. Additionally, 1974 was the first year, I am told, that the bike came with the front disc brake."

I also asked the seller a question.  I said you spent a year looking for this bike and "restoring it" why are you selling this beauty?  So far no response.  My guess, he bought the bike, brought it home, and his wife said "sell it".

The guy forgot to tell you that the kick start handle is a sandcast. Only fitting in that it was the first ever made.

$5000? He might get lucky if someone grabs it for $450, despite that HUGE rust inside the tank. You can still buy good CB750 tanks on ebay. I bought two for $20 each (shipping doubles that price though) and they're in excellent shape. No dents, petcork works and there's hardly any "normal" rust inside.

Maybe the gas in the tank is sandcast  ;D

It looks good, My guess is that she is worth about 3,500 max. If he had the REAL pipes (like you would on a restoration), dumped the crappy gauge faces  ;),  it would be more like the BIN that he has.

Maybe the person he bought the bike off was a great salesman and fed him a whole line of horse manure which he swallowed then used it in his eBay description. He sure looks like a bit of a clown anyway.

He is probably selling it for someone else. he did a quick search and came up with the story ass backwards.

5k for a fairly nice '74 CB750 is about inline with the guy asking for $5000 CDN (~$4400 USD) for a 1973 CB500 in the Vancouver BuySell,  ::)
