Tire size conversions?
« on: March 14, 2012, 07:24:58 PM »
Hey y'all just wondering what, if any tire size substitutions are possible. For example, on my '82 cb650, the manual suggests 120/90-17 for the rear, but as of now I'm running a 130/90-17. Is it possible to do a 140/80-17? the reason I'm asking is because i can't find ANY white walls in 120/90-17. also what do these numbers mean anyway? most of the time its like 4.50h17-4pr or something.

I'm not familiar with the clearances on that bike, but here's a page that should help you out.  Just skip down to the "conversion charts" and "size types" sections.

They are Metric sizes. You will get the hang of it eventually. :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

The website is definitely helpful, i suppose ill just have to measure the clearance when theres some light outside. if the aspect ratio is 80% that means the tire's cross-sectional width is 80% of its height correct? and for the 140/80-17, it says 140/80-----5.50/6.00 meaning the 5.50 is the minimum width and the 6.00 is the maximum width (when inflated)? I'm thinking of getting these white walls http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SHINKO%2D777&CartID= in a 140/80-17, but it says this is a front tire, is it possible to use a front tire as a rear? thanks for the help
