Why the crank bearing difference in Honda service manual?
« on: March 05, 2012, 10:07:57 PM »
Looking at page 49 in the 750 service manual.
If you have an A crank journal and a B crank shaft the table says to use a Yellow Bearing.
If you have a   B crank journal and a A crank shaft the table says to use a Green Bearing.

Why is this? It seems it would be the same.
My case is BBBBB and crank is AAAAA. I meant to order all green but ordered wrong and bought all yellow. :-\
Plastigauge gives me a reading of .002 to .0018.
Is this good or do I need to order all new green? :o

Thanks
Steve

The Green ones will take that clearance down to 0.0016" to 0.0014". They are in steps of 0.0004" thickness change for each color.

Honda's wear limit is 0.0032", but the oil pressure gets pretty low with more than 0.0025" clearance.

From the research I've done and people I've asked in my own post "crank bearings" .002 for used crank and new/used bearings is perfectly ok.
