I picked the tail light up from custom dynamics.  http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm#2002-2005_Yamaha_Road_Star_Warrior_Integrated_LED_Taillight_  It is for a Yamaha Road Star so it is not plug n play but pretty easy to sort out.

Moved the taillight set up back a bit.  Really happy with the led, has integrated turn signals and pulsing stop.  Made up a bracket out of aluminum to move the taillight / license plate back about two inches, fills up the rear cowl nicely now.

Finished up the gauges added led's to the indicator lights and led strip inside the gauges.  Picked up some billet mirrors to complete the front end.

My battery showed up tonight.  all I have left is to wire the front end bleed the brakes and fire it up...

That tail section looks way better now, tweakin..never had any doubts it would.  Nicely done.

I just about finished up all the updated wiring today.  I added white leds to the gauges and led bulbs to the indicator lights.

1978 cb750f led gauges and indicator lights

I also got the taillight sorted out with the integrated turn signals and strobing stop.

1978 cb750f taillight

I am thinking about adding a piece of smoked acrylic to enclose the entire tail light section to just above license plate.

I was planning on using one of my old oil bags but it has a leak at the bung.  I have an extra bag off at powder so depending on how buy they are this will be a minor set back.

So she is done!  with the exception of some minor tweaking...  Fired her up today and took a shack down run.  Wow, it made me realize just how far away from stock I took the 915 build.  The 78 still has the vintage feel, which is great and still rips.

1978 cb750f3 with 836 engine and APE F2 head.  Initial start up.
1978 cb750f3 initial start up

Here are some pics of the completed ride.  I still plan on filling in the tail section with a piece of smoked acrylic to hide the modern LED taillight.

This thing is like riding a Cadillac compared to a Porsh when comparing it to the 1977 915 build and I love it.  This will be the long haul bike and will see plenty of road time!

Dude!!!  You do some great work. :)  Much quicker than I am  ;)  I'm almost done. Tried firing it last week but no oil pressure. Won't burp even pouring 3/4 qt into the oil pressure gauge galley. Sucks but looks like I'm gonna have to remove the exhaust then oil pan and pump. Kicked back to reflect and do some actual work now.

Thanks Jerry.  Did you prime your pump?  I always submerge my oil pumps in oil and turn them over by hand to burp out any air bubbles before install.

Thanks guys for the good word.

RR-  The differences between the two F's is huge.  First the power of the 836 engine is great but not even close to the 915 I built up with all the goodies,  Acceleration on the 915 is much better and it has much more snap of the line and shifts much smoother.  The lighter aluminum wheel and 530 conversion on the 915 is also an improvement.  The suspension is good on this bike but the Works shocks, racetech front end with GL forks on the 915 is much more subtle and stable at speeds (could also be because of the lowered stance of the 915).  Since I used brembo and Nissin masters on both bikes braking is good on both.  Overall this bike feels more like a sport cruiser while the 915 with the built engine, better suspension, rearsets, clip ons and updated controls and electrics feels more like a 90's racer, IMO.

I think I accomplished what I set out to do.  Build a nice 750 sport cruiser with out losing the "vintage feel".  I wanted something I could slap a tank bag on (sorry Nvr2old) throw on some riding grear and take off for a few days.

Great job.. Very nice looking bike.  Too bad you are on the west coast I would love to check it out in person..  ;)

Also I noticed that you are not running a oil cooler on this bike.  Any thoughts on that or is the 915 that much hotter ;D

Not yet  ::)  Thought about it after buttoned up and in frame. (no DOH emoticons to insert here) Took a chance and lost  :-[ :-[ :-[  I should have some time to get back to it after this week. Even put in new shaft seal, spring and rubber plunger! Why would I remember to do something simple  ;) Isn't second time ALWAYS easier!
