Depending on the epoxy UV stability unpainted carbon fiber is not recommended due to the heat it absorbs in bright sunlight and potential issues with heat and UV breaking down the epoxy. Not sure the reduction is serious or not but painting is recommended. Dark colored paints will just have carbon heat ifssues as well. Carbon kevlar wings in full size and models aircraft are painted light colors to help with this... fwiw...

Ever see hexcel Texalium, an aluminum deposited fiberglass cloth that is decorative in nature and comes in various colors, blue, gold, red, etc. It is stiff material and is best used on parts without complex compound curves. It can be used to create some cool parts.
ebay has a porsche rear panel of the red used between the tail lights of a race car.
It is harder to find now. Sold for about 18/sq yd and is usually a 6 ounce cloth with a carbon fiber twill like weave.

What are you doing for a fork brace?

You're going to have a pair of classy bikes there man.  That motallana fender is the cat's ass- will have to consider it for my K3.

I'll let you know how the 7 West fenders look when I get mine.  I have an aluminum front fender on order.
Take care,
David

Nice Jim. Thanks, I haven't seen those before.  I have a decision to make. I will have to think about this one for a bit.

David let me know when you get that thing mounted I would love to check it out.

Anybody have pics of how they modified the rear brake stay (arm as the manual call it)  to fit around a wider rear tire?
Anybody made a custom stay?

I made a custom stay out of box section 6061 alu.  I could see doing it with 2024 billet/barstock to decrease the width further.

Something like this http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=13372&step=4&showunits=inches&id=1000&top_cat=0 would likely work.
Take care,
David

What size rear do have? Did you bend or shape it to fit around the tire?

Mine didn't have to be modified, but I went with a stock sized tire/rim.

The 2024 bar is stiffer and stronger than my 6061 box, and would give you another 1/4 to 3/8 inch of clearance.  Round the ends, drill some "speed holes" in it, polish it up, and it should look pretty nice.
Take care,
David

Yup, I already have my 130 80 18 mounted and the stay won't fit.

That's a great idea but I don't have a straight shot. I'm gonna have to put a spacer on the rear mount and figure something out for the front.

How did you flatten the ends of the round stock?

Well I was able to bend my stock stay and get it to fit. It will work but I don't think it will be my permanent solution.

And after grinding and sandblast

I hope that can help you ;)

You could even braze them on and be strong enough if you don't have welding capabilities.

Well since we are on the subject does anybody have any DIY solutions for making one of the brake adjuster arms? I was thinking of threading some round stock maybe...

Carbon fiber arrow shaft with polished aluminum sleeves on the ends epoxied on. The threaded insert on one end can be used to adapt to one of the end and the other fabbed up out of rod and bar stock.

When you get on the brake hard dont you think the arm will flex? Can you weld a mounting further out on the swing arm? I know it would be a pain to weld on a new one and have to re coat the arm.

You could weld a round rod to the tire side of the brace to make it even stiffer after the bend if you have enough clearance.

Well I suppose it could flex now that you mention it. I don't think that will make it unsafe just maybe not as efficient ? I will figure something out. I think I would rather make a new arm then relocate the bracket.

Tore into the oil pump tonight and everything looks to be in great shape except the mating surfaces of the rotors. Hondaman's book mentions inspecting these and said that some damage is normal but any more than 5% of the surface and replace. Well mine are way more than that. Anybody got an oil pump or parts to spare?
