I vote to keep the blue but go with black stripes. Maybe, have them painted?

But I am bias, have a similar Polynesian Blue K4,  but no stripes (yet).

Thanks for all the input. I hate the shape of the current stripes and think the stock ones would look best. I don't like the gold stripes though. Tige you think black or silver stripes?

Hey Branden

I'm no good on stripes cause I've always preferred panels but the blue is awesome.

Thanks Jim. I appreciate your opinion. I like panels too but I don't think the shape of these 750 tanks work well with them. At least in my mind I can't picture it...

I vote to keep it as is with correct stripes this time around.  The silver off the blue pops and looks tits.
+1. And you may need to braze or line the neck to prevent future blistering. Double check that the paint does not finish above the neck rim. If it does, vapor will infiltrate below the locked cap and bubble your paint. You need that bare metal ring to protect the paint.

If you do use black stripes, they should be outlined in a white/silver to provide separation of the black and blue. Otherwise, the black color will "bleed" into the blue and you will lose the separation visually. Same is true of red/black combos.

That's what I did when my painter effed up the stripes...

I really like the silver stripes, but you can't go wrong with black either B.

Sucks about the paint around the filler.  I had the same thing start to happen to my CL360, caught it early and used JBWeld to stop it.

Gorgeous work any very eye catching!   The fender looks great with  nice tight lines. Does your remote brake reservoir leak? It has what looks like a black sock on it. Curious what the story is with that.
Very clean and tidy build and gorgeous finish, you build lust worthy bikes.

I think if this were my bike, I would go with the black stripes to match the fenders.  It would be a nice way to tie it all together.

What many painters..don't..do, is to seal off the paint line on the filler neck.  Fumes (as mentioned) will get under it and start to bubble the paint.  Tige mentioned using JB Weld, and that's something I've advocated for years now.  Keep the paint line below the top of the neck, and just mask a line 1/8" above and below the paint line, swipe some JB over it and it will most certainly stop the gas fumes from intruding.

Just figured you are making it disappear with the black so it doesn't draw the eye to the reservoir.

Wonder what some subtle mica in the clear for ghost flames  or the bike's name would look like.

Is the paint a metallic?

Did you decide to stick with the Subaru paint or go with a Polynesian Blue?

Personally, I like them both and I like them better with white trim.

Too bad you don't have Photoshop to play with various trim stripes to test the look to find something you like better.

Larry thanks for the tip. I will make sure this happens next time around. I'm kinda glad it happened because I would of lived with the stripes otherwise. So you vote black stripes as well. Solid black or some sort of lighter trim around the stripes?

I will stick with the Subaru blue I think. But no ghost flames. It is metallic.

BrandEn . Have you considered picking up some tape type pinstripe from your local carparts store? Comes in different widths and colors. You can try out any color scheme on the pin and any shape, you can mix and match to see what makes you happy. Then you'll have a better idea of the finished product, snap a pic , show the painter as a guide....

I would do all black stripes.  The wider one like you have, and 1/8" pin stripes surrounding it.  I think that would look excellent against the blue.  If you went with a contrasting pin stripe, I believe you would then have to bring that color in somewhere else, too.

Yea I still really want to repaint but life has gotten in the way. I'm thinking a good winter project since this is my only bike right now. As much as I absolutely hate painting I've never painted a motorcycle and think I might be willing to give it a try.

Good paint work is 99% prep and your tank is in great shape with no need for bondo work, merely prep the paint for the primer beneath your new paint.  You will need to clean up the wrinkle areas on the neck.  Then a good primer, sand smooth and then a top coat of primer, when it has cured according to specs then shoot an even base coat or coats.  After the base coat has cured for the required time top coat with a 2k urethane misting the initial coats.  Once you have a few coats you can shoot a wet coat or two.  You will want to practice on something else to get the feel for working with the clear so you do not lay down too much material causing a run.  That can be the hardest part.  You probably already know to shoot the paint from the top down and have a consistent overlap along with a consistent distance from the painted surface.

Then of course you know to mask the edge of the paint below the top of the filler neck. Plus to paint past the object being painted and start spraying before the object.

The only way to learn how to paint and how difficult it is, is to do it.  You may have talent in that area.
