haha, well my guess is the OEM gauges have them so the guy that made them (main jet moto on Ebay) just incorporated them into this design. I guess it would look better without it but its no deal breaker for me.

That is your break in speed limit. I remember riding my beautiful shiney new CB750F home with that warning still sounding in my ears and looking down and about crapping my pants when it was doing 75 in 3rd. It was so smooth and effortless that I couldn't believe it. I always figured that is half way there  ;D

I am putting a Gl1000 front end and 18" wheel. I was thinking of the 400f speedo, the pics and info you share was right on spot for me.

what is the diameter of the axle hole on the 400f speedo?

I managed to spend a few hours out in the garage today and I got the gauges mounted and the forks built up. I noticed that with the tank installed at full lock the left fork was contacting the tank. I was a bit worried at first but after some forum searching I learned that the later tanks (K5 and up) have the cups mounted further back. This is a K5 tank on a K4 frame. Hopefully that's the issue. My frame is straight and the tank appears to be straight. I installed a bolt on the right lower tree stop and it cured my problem. Plenty of room now.

Very Nice.

Coinkidink; I have a similar problem with my fork and tank. MANY years ago I fell at speed on Phaedrus I, St Louis Interstate, wonderfull 3 week trip out west, I digress.

The fork stop lug on the left side was bent back a tad. Allowing the fork ear (same as yours) to touch the tank when full lock right.  The tree has been chrome for many years, I forgot all about it while building it up again.

The correct fix would be to remove and straighten the lug. This might crack the chrome. Or replace the tree, but that involves replacing the bearings and rechroming.

What exactly did you do? It looks like you drilled straight thru and did a bolt and nut? Was it difficult? Removal of headlight and brakeline T?

Would sure hate to dent my perfect no bondo tank and metalflake paintjob.

Yes, I just drilled staraight thru, then ran a tap, installed a nut and bolt. I shimmed the bolt head with washers to get the thickness needed. I probably didn't need to tap it but I did anyway. I did it with the headlight removed and I had plenty of room. I didn't even think of the lug being bent. Sounds like that could of been what was wrong with mine. Its hard to tell for sure though.

Was yours hitting both left and right? If not, if just one side, then maybe a bent lug. Mine is visible to naked eye comparing left and right. I was dreaming of drilling, tapping and putting a cute little chrome buttonhead in there. But I've been putting the job off. You've inspired me to retackle it. Gotta wrap up all these little details b4 my parts get back from MRieck.

PS: Love those discs!

You can still get those from your local or online dealership.  I had to buy a new one for my build.

So I received my head and cylinders from MRieck and they look great. I already have the cylinders painted and took these pictures before I tape up the head for paint. I installed my APE cylinder studs and started checking ring end gap for my Wiseco 836 kit.

Installed the studs like Mike suggests. Small amount of red loctite and not much torque. Mock up the head and jugs and torque down the nuts letting everything set up for 24 hours.
