Nice! All the positive responses make my day. Truth be told, the CL450 has a 19" front. I thought it was an 18" but later learned different. Still worked out!

Yeah, I could have asked that better.  Did he countersink the disc carrier so you can use the original stock length rotor bolts?

Yup, I just wished I had him mill the backside of the right rotor to fit the speedo drive. That's on my to do list for the winter.

Yep, he milled the speedo bracket plate to accommodate the reduced space.  Tight fit, but everything seems to work ok on my 550 dual front.

Yes it looks great! Just enough balance front and rear to mask the 19' v 18" issue. I searched high and wide for an 18" fender, microfiches and the local salvage yard. Finally came up with a CB350F front fender as an 18". But it's chrome and double braces, wouldn't look as good on your bike.

Yes Ron your help led me to this solution. The problem with the CB350 and 400 fenders is the were to narrow for my wide tire. I stumbled on the CL fenders and bingo!

The best part! I thought I wanted fender mounts. My bike is modified just enough that no mounts or braces actually looks good.

With a slightly shorter fender, it looks better without the added brackets.  The PC came out clean, too.  It also beats having to invent the wheel if you go with an unmounted fender -- needing new mounts altogether!

So I rebuilt the stock swingarm and got it installed. I think this bike needs the stock one.

Those Excel wheels look superb.  I have some high polish ones on my 750.  I was thinking of using the satin finish ones on my 550 IF I rebuild the wheels (my front wheel has some fair pitting).  I have an OEM replacement for it, but was debating on changing it for aluminum.  Part of the struggle to keep it stockish.

The rear fender was a PITA but worth it. Basically I just drilled and ground out the welds that hold the mount bracket on. Then I shortened the fender by cutting off about 4-6"  from the forward section because I wanted the rear portion of the fender to have the stock shape and rolled edges. I then just bolted the bracket back onto the fender and had it powdercoated. It turned out pretty good doing it like this but would be a bit more difficult if you wanted to leave it chrome because the powdercoat hides a lot od the imperfections. I love powdercoat!

One of my winter projects is to have my bike repainted. The paint has totally started to blister and peel around the filler neck. Not to mention I have never been satisfied with the stripes. I don't like the color and they are uneven.


Soooo, I am going to buy some all black stripe decals and use those. The real question is should I keep the Subaru World Rally Blue and use all black stripes? I want to keep the bike blue but am thinking of something a little darker. I am open to suggestions on paint color if anybody has something for me to look at.......

That blue is great, but I don't think black stripes would do it justice.  B/c the blue is dark enough (esp. if you go darker), I think you need something with some contrast and I don't think the black has that - it would just get lost.   One more comment - the line of the strip leading into the seat doesn't quite sit well with me.  From the side, I think it would flow better if the end of the stripe leading into the seat were curved into towards the center of the tank (from the top), so that it looks like it lines up w/the curve of the seat where it meets the tank.  (Make sense?  To me, it looks like the stripe is 1" below the seat level.)  And, in looking at it, that might be hard to do.  Almost looks like you would have to lower the front edge of the seat, rather than monkeying w/the stripes.  Then that would open another can of worms.   Hmmm...

Disclaimer - I always hesitate to give my opinion, as I don't want to appear as if I'm criticizing, so please don't take it as such.  Your bike(s) are beautiful (mine is in nowhere the same state of polish), so it's more of my musings on what would make a perfect bike perfecter.  :D

I vote to keep it as is with correct stripes this time around.  The silver off the blue pops and looks tits.
