speedo / tach swap
« on: March 17, 2012, 10:04:29 AM »
The question I have is as follows: If the speedo and tach from a 1980 CB650 were installed on a 1978 CB550 K would they give accurate readings??
Considering that only the 2 gauges are being installed and the cables and drive units will stay stock 1978 CB550 K.
Thanking you in advance for any help that you can provide.
Cheers,
DEL

I know the tacho has a different drive ratio. Someone more knowledgeable will come up with the details soon. :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

You will need the 650 tach gear thingy that goes into the top of the engine it will fit on the 550 otherwise it should all work out...

Don't take this the wrong way because I'm not trying to dis you but are you sure on that? I swapped a 650 cam into my 550 and to make it work I needed the tach drive gear from the 650 along with a 650 or 750 tach (both have same ratio). If what you're saying is true then why couldn't I have used the 550 tach drive gear with the 650 cam and kept my 550 tach? Can anyone clarify this?
