Looks like you've got a good solid 750F there and it just needs some TLC and you'll be good to go. And at $500 you stole it. Great buy. ;D Don't worry to much about the weeping oil around headgasket area because its pretty much a standard issue on these older SOHC4's my K6 is the same way. Yours is probably only minor like mine. Do a search for paper towel trick. That Mac pipe is just like the one that's on my 750K6 also

That rack is quite an eyesore! You should yank that p.o.s. off and send it to me! ;)
So much to do, so little time.

Nice looking bike
Thanks for the pictures of the luggage rack.

I see your not having much of a winter in Sask either.  I'm just hoping winter doesn't start and then drag into April.  That would effect the riding season   >:(

It's been above freezing every day this week and is projected to do the same on some days for the forseeable future. Around here some years it gets to minus 40 (-40 is where fahrenheit and celsius meet).

Global warming? Good for riding but not so good for folks near the equator.

Glad the pics help.

You sure that is a Mac exhaust? Doesnt appear to be...
One thing about the PO, he kept every bill he ever had and gave me a file folder full of stuff from day 1.

That included the exhaust system he put on a few years ago which on the bill was listed as an 801-1301. When I "googled" that number, there she was, a MAC 4 into 1. It's almost too quiet.

This is the second bike I picked up since the fall. The first is a 1976 CB750K that needs quite a bit of work.

I think this CB750F will be my rider while I cafe (or something) the K. The K has been butchered up a bit anyway, you can see photos of what the PO did to it this other thread: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=96106.msg1070083#msg1070083

This F is too close to stock for me to go messing with it too much. I like the look of it. The most I might do is put a GL1000 front end on it so I can use both my Lester rims, and get rid of the comstars. The jury's still out on that though.

First thing is getting it running properly.

I'm going to need a new chain and sprockets.

Any thoughts on # of teeth, and chain size/type will be appreciated, as well as good (read: inexpensive) sources.

I'm leaning towards a non o-ring chain.

I'll mostly be commuting about 40 kms on a 4 lane hghway with the occasional foray much further afield.

Also, anyone have a bracket for the Vetter III fairing that came with the bike?

Great looking bike...I'm working on a '78 CB750K that I picked up in running order for $790.00.  Needed a seat and a battery. You got a great deal with all the extras too!!

I pulled and cleaned the carbs on the weekend, and got it running and idling quite well. After I pulled and cleaned the slow jets, it idled well but much higher than it should... is this common with plugged slow jets?

What a great feeling to go for my first ride on my new (to me) bike after at least 15 years of being without! I had forgotten how much fun it is. It's also a great feeling to know you've done the work yourself and thanks to those who provided such great advice. I never would have thought of pulling the pressed in slow jets without this forum. I changed the oil, installed a NOS chrome spin on filter and put in a new GEL battery.

A question... when lubricating/adjusting the drive chain I removed the cotter key, loosened the big axle nut on the right side but was unable to loosen the big nut (without a cotter key) on the left (looking from the back) and bent the adjusting bolt on that side trying to tighten the chain. Do both these big axle nuts get loosened when adjusting the chain, or just the one with the cotter key?

Left side is actually the head of the axle.  By removing the nut it should be loose enough.   Try persuading it loose by hitting the end you removed the nut from with a hammer.  Surprised its that tight. Normally just take out he cotter pin, loosen off the nut, back off jam nuts and tighten up chain.

Great find by the way.  I should have the mount for a Windjammer SS that came of my 'F' if you're interested.

We overlook the Big Valley Jamboree grounds near Craven. I could use that Vetter mount... do you have any use for a Kawasaki mount? I'll wack the axle from the cotter pin side and see if I can free it. Thanks!
