CB550 PETCOCK LEAK
« on: October 20, 2015, 11:16:21 AM »
CB550F petcock leaks through the knob, particularly when set on reserve. Installed a rebuild gasket, and i cant access behind the faceplate as it is the riveted kind and not the screw type. Same issue 2 different petcocks of the same type. Suggestions?

If non-stock chinese #$%*, throw it away and get a genuine Honda part. I learned the hard way.

yep - you are better with an OLD f'd up honda petcock for which you buy the reconditioning "kit" (basically the shaped/drilled rubber seal and filter) than one of the knockoffs that leak from ethanol poisoning.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

Both are stock, but i thought i read somewhere on here about how people filed down the rivet heads on these style petcocks to access a gasket behind the face plate, but i cant find it and dont know how they reattached the face plate without the rivets.

The rivets once drilled out should reveal a hole to fit a pair of short bolts and nuts.
I recall seeing that thread recently but I don't recall where. Sorry.
