I have done nothing with the Previous Owners Stuff in the garage, but store it. It was time to make some room and things don't rool very well with a rusted stopped chain. Oil can, paint brush, spray or transmission fluid is a mess any way around to get enough on a chain that is seized.
Of course it needs to be cut off, but it can still be handy trying to turn over a motor if it is not frozen.
I used a strip of foil about six inches wide and poured the ATF soaked it, started working it around.. Nice to be able to roll it around now, and not as much mess as just trying to splash enough something on it.
