Everything Blinks
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:16:50 PM »
Ok, round two for my 76 Hondamatic. Checking the wiring, I now am faced with everything blinking when I hit the signals. I'm not sure if its the signal relay or a bad ground. Any Takers? Please help

what do you mean by "everything"

and . . . by blinking - completely dark to bright - or dimming (but not off).

1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

Kandrtech,
Boss, everything dims not goes black. I checked the schematic I have the connections right but I have I no idea. I took off the relay infrustration, blinking stopped but now no signals.

Thanks man

Had that same issue on a 77CB750K and it was a loose ground.

If I'm reading you correctly, what you're describing is normal, especially if the engine is idling or not running. The lower the battery state of charge, the dimmer the "flashing" items will get.

If you have LED blinkers all around, you might need to replace the relay also. The stock relay is expecting high resistance compared to what the LEDs have...

Another solution would be to install resistance on each LED blinker to mimic an incandescent bulb's resistance.

This is my 2c... Hope it helps...

I take it he meant all the blinkers blink together. Sort of like emergency flashers. Maybe he will clarify...
