1979DOHC 750 price?
« on: September 28, 2012, 08:36:25 am »
What is a reasonable price for a 1979 Honda CB750 DOHC?  Bike is not Museum quality but it is in very good shape.  The carbs were gone thru and it runs great but it idles rough.  Amateur repair I suspect. Around 25000 miles. It is that dark red color and everything is there.  Has a good New York title.  Currently owned by a soldier.

They weren't a great bike at all, but one's that were looked after seem to have survived, so it's somewhat rare, but definitely not a collectors item.

They are fragile compared to the DOHC Kawasaki's and Suzuki's of the period, so more of a novelty item than a bike that can be ridden hard for long periods.

Look after it and you'll probably be the only kid on the block to own one. $1 per cc, max.  ;)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

They might have been "in the works" in 1979 Mick, but they weren't in the showrooms until mid 1980. The first one in Sydney was on display at the Castrol 6 hour. If you find one earlier than that, post a pic mate, it's a collectors item. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The 750's raced in the 6 hour a swell that year, you've got me completely confused now {doesn't take much}, they are also listed as released in 1979..

Yep, I understand your confusion mate, but "released in 1979" doesn't necessarily mean "in the showrooms in 1979", Honda was still trying to unload a couple of shipping containers full of those horrible DOHC "K"s. ;D

the bike in columbus is equal.  the soldier is here in fayetteville  old boy friend of my daughter.  he was going to take it back to NY but someone stole his trailer from the barracks parking lot. he gets out soon.
