Yes but it's a pain without the correct tools and with out those tools it will probably take you and someone else to give you a hand. With the shock off and setting upright on the floor, with a really strong grip grab that chrome spring cover and put all your weight into it pushing it down. This will compress the spring and release the retainer that's wedged at the top between the cover and the top of the shock absorber. I can't remember if the retainer on mine is a 1 piece "C" type wedge or a 2 piece wedge but this is where having someone else to give you a hand becomes useful because they can pull the retainer out while your hands are busy gripping the cover with all your weight pushing down. You don't have to compress the spring completely, just enough to release that retainer and remember to grip only the cover when putting your weight into it other wise you'll compress the shock piston with it and unable to release the retainer. I'm horrible at explaining things but hopefully you'll get the idea.
