help getting 550 to run right
« on: March 21, 2012, 05:42:25 PM »
Reviving a 77 550k. Rebuilt the carbs, got it to fire today but it ran very poorly. It has the cheap pods on it now while waiting for my new airbox to show up.

It would only run on fullchoke. Initially I put my hand over the intake just to get out to fire, and fuel came out the little holes beneath the choke butterfly. What does that mean? Also I used a lawnmower style fuel filter, could this be causing problems?  I'm going to do a compression check and see where I'm at.

An electronic ignition, timing, and a strong battery really help em run good. Get them carbs adjusted and synced. Remember fuel, air, spark, are the basic essentials. Worm
