Cutting bar controls for drag bars without wire holes
« on: March 23, 2012, 11:22:03 AM »
Anyone have any photos of bikes with drag bars with external wiring? Wondering how people hack up the controls so that the wiring isn't internal. Seems like the best bet is to cut away part of the controls.

I have found it easier and cleaner just to cut the bars for the internal wiring and it's a lot cleaner looking. Just set it all up and drill a starter hole and use a die grinder to enlarge the holes.

unless its sealed perfectly, moisture can get in and cause all sorts of troubles.
internal wiring looks cleaner IMO.
use a stepped bit & dremel to make cutouts in your controls bars and run the wires internal  ;) took me ~90min (mockup, drill, de-burr, install and re-run wires)
drag bars should be easy as there are minimal bends.

How the control was on my bike when I bought it. Not sure if this is good or bad but how they did it..Dont have them on the bike to show what it looks like but you can see where it was cut..

Awesome, thanks for the insight everyone. That last pic is exactly what I was thinking. I'm kinda weighing my options right now and this helped out a lot.

I used a dremel and notched mine just like the pic above (easy).  I didn't want to pull all those wires through the Norman Hyde M bars I put on my bike.
