Any DRESDA Honda owners/riders out there in UK SOHC land....or further afield...?
Today,Jim ,Steve D and myself spent a very interesting and magic day with Mr Dresda himself...yes Dave Degens....
.....for the younger forum members, Dave was a legend in the 50s/60s/70s racing arena, building superb TRITONS,a works Honda ride, and a whole lot more....including DRESDA frame/chassis kits, and complete CB500/750 bikes too....
There seem to be very few Dresda SOHC 4s left....any more out there....?
There is also a classic bike event in Sussex on 20th August, and Mr D would be pleased to see a few more Dresdas there.....
Even if you're too far away,or abroad,it would be great to hear from the select few who have
one of these superb bikes today .......
So,where have all the bikes gone....?
Any info would be great.......
Lets not forget that back then...how many of us kept our bikes stock.....?few,I bet.....
Witness Carpys success across the pond......restoring a bike to 100% concours original specs
can be great....BUT a truly individual cafe racer/low-rider/chop/drag style bike can be even more fun ,built the way we wanted it all those years ago....why not today.....the expertise and knowledge still exists, some of the names from the past are still around, the parts can be found.....we may be older, wiser, slower but hey.....mis-spent youth part 2 here we come....
.......loud pipes,mags,clip-ons,fairings,alloy tanks...the list is endless....Dresdas,Dunstalls,Rickmans,Seeleys......these were and still are a huge part of our past biking days........
A cream puff concours 100% restored stock bike is a joy to behold and be proud of surely, but how about a well built, properly engineered non-standard SOHC 4...of any size.....thats NOT just like everyone elses....that,I think...is a whole different story.....
What do you think SOHCers............? Lets hear it for cafes,chops,racers/race reps etc etc...
Summers here in UK,lets get out and RIDE these old bikes and help history to repeat itself
Safe rides,wherever you may be
Cheers..!
