750F Engine installation & advice in a 1973 frame
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:12:10 AM »
Ok so I got a engine to put into my 73 cb750 frame, its a 1976 cb750F engine I believe  :-\
I was looking into the engine vin# and it looks like my engine vin# is right in between the 1975 and 1976 vin #'s...... Not sure what that means
anyone else know? The 1975 ends at 25115085 and the 1976 starts at 2525094 mine is in the middle....! It has a black top end so that would lead
me to believe it is a 1976.

The engine also came with an oil cooler, I don't think that was stock....was it? I will attach a photo so you can see the set up of the oil cooler.

Any other recommendations or advice on installing a 1976 cb750F engine in a 1973 frame would be greatly appreciated.

Oil cooler is not stock. Basically, 75/76F's are the same motor. Should pop right into your frame with no modifications. Be sure to grind off the flange on the lower RH front motor mount to gain an extra 1-2mm clearance that really makes a difference. Dab a lil' paint on it once you're done. Good luck!
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

post up your serial number. If it has 8 digits in it it is not a 75/76 F engine. It would be an earlier k engine.

CB750 F0   1975   Jan 1975 – Feb 1975   1000002 to 1015054   2500004 to 25115085 (I'm thinking this number has 1 too many digits/1's in it and should be 2515085 maybe. I'm not at home to verify)

Nothing special to installing any of the engines. Every one except the Autos will fit the same. No stock oil coolers. Most will not fit on 75/76 F due to the electrical junction box hanging on the front of the downtubes.

Black top end means the engine has been taken apart at some point and it was painted. May have some goodies inside  ;D Best reason I know of to open one up.
