Forks the same for cb500 and cb550?

I've seen by pulling them apart that the cb550 has a machined ring in the fork tubes.  The cb500 has hoes drilled. Anybody swap these. Will they work for one another in the aluminum bottom section..?

I know that the internals are different for both, but not sure about viability of swapping stanchions/sliers.
