Tail light reassembly question (pics)... 750K
« on: March 24, 2012, 01:08:44 PM »
What am I missing?  I took this thing apart some time ago and for the life of me I can't remember what I did that created such slop in the front to back movement of the reflector lens.  As you can see, the entire lens has roughly 1/4" of play in it.  How do I get this thing secure to where it doesn't move?  Is there a piece I'm missing?  I've looked on the parts diagram and don't see it.  I have all of the rest of the parts (new) to put it back together.

The entire panel should be covered by a thick rubber insulator which would take up that slop and give some isolation to the mounting.

This rubber would have a large hole in the center which you would work over that flange and it would then sit under the flange, being held on by it.

The rubber may actually have been factory installed and glued into place. That would explain why its not on the fish, its actually part of the back plate.

So there's a rubber "cap" or "ring" that goes over this entire part?

I guess I need to go dig through my extra bits to see what I can find.  If not, I could use some sort of epoxy to build up a support for it.

Btw, thanks for the quick reply...

I think so. Its actaully a large piece of rubber that fills that area and goes to cover the whole back of the base plate.

The fish for the older lights shows it as #10.

I could be wrong as my first hand knowledge is with the older lights, but i think that's what's missing. It could have deteriortated from weather and was removed.
